@David
So you mean, if it was a Netbook..

I think the idea is great but just poorly implemented. I wish people could read the BT FAQ on it before posting here.
The openzone network runs on a completely different SSID and subnet, it will grant no access to the internal network. Secondly it does NOT eat into your bandwidth cap.
I however don't really understand why anyone would want to do this. Home users sure but business users.. why?
What would be absolutely great is if they could provide you with your standard 2mb and throw an extra 1mb on top. Limit the openzone bandwidth to 1mb. This way its a great incentive for businesses to signup and run this for BT... when no one's using the openzone you got a faster internet connection @ the same price, when people are using it then you're just running at your old standard speed.
The only potential downside is WIFI bandwidth but no one should be relying on a wifi network in a serious business pushing data around.

"As the hub’s default setting is for the service to be enabled, you need to disable the service again if you perform a factory reset in the future."
Paris cos she's smarter than those posting here.
So they hire these people to invent things and pay them a wage whether they succeed or fail. The person agrees to take on this job and does the task.
Then when the invention takes off, they get paid more money? Why?? It's the employers who put in the risk and investment to pay their wages.
If I'm working at McDonalds and I have a record day where I sell 500,000 of their burgers, can I force my employers to pay me more because I did my job well?
I have a macbook pro (which is forever going back for repairs to the optical drive, audio board and replacement of poor quality casing.).
I also have an MSI Wind 'netbook' which is running kalyway updated to 10.5.4
I most recently built a quad core desktop mac: http://www.esrun.co.uk/blog/quad-core-mac/
I recommend downloading ideneb 10.5.5 rather than kalyway 10.5.2 because then you're already on the most recent updates!
Some people are saying you can just ask for the picture to be removed so whats the issue? What if someone else sees the image of me before I do. I shouldn't HAVE to scan through Google stree view every day to check if they have been taking pictures of me.
The cars AREN'T restricted to public places only, the cameras are capable (and do) of taking pictures through your home windows, garden etc all private property.
As for those who say Google aren't making money from this. Uh sorry? Subdomains and internal pages of google.com, promoting their site as a whole.
A lot of people mention the fact that its perfectly legal to take pictures in a public place (e.g Roadwars on Sky One). The thing is, these cameras aren't restricted or filtered purely to public places, they drive past homes and if you happen to have no nets on those curtains and are walking around your own home naked...
Paris because I want to see her naked without nets
What rubbish. If AVG gave webmasters an easy way to block it then obviously anyone who produced malware/badware sites would also block it in the same way. There are many firefox addons which do similar. I think AVG should stick with it. The guy @ avg-watch.org is a real idiot. Firstly how many people are really going to do a sitewide search of a domain that often? Secondly, if someone wants to perform a DoS there are thousands of much better tools readily available than trying to use AVG. The AVG grabs the html of one page, not images, flash files etc etc so the usage is minimal. What a baby.
I think some people are forgetting the fact that there are charges for an SMS crossing networks..
Sending an email isn't free... if you didn't pay your ISP then you wouldn't be able to send/receive those emails. And yes I know you could use free wifi but then you can find free BT SMS stations in most major cities now.
Mobile phone companies are there to make money, not to provide a service AT cost. This coffee I have probably costs about 4pence if you break it down, I still have to pay £1.80 for it. Okay it's not a perfect comparison because one involves a little human interaction but come on, it's a business. Who expects them to provide it at cost?
Paris because she sends me SMS all the time!
I'd like to go with you but...
While he doesn't openly ask for money, it seems very 'beggy'. If it was a genuine reg reader (e.g the reg confirmed the user had an account and been reading the reg and commenting for many years then I'd probably be compelled to donate a little to help him out. Therefore... 419 suspicions my friend.
Well after spending forever looking around and commenting on this post, I decided to give the "Infineon ADM5120" a go from omnima.co.uk. I found them on the openwrt forum and decided I might as well give it a go. It was only £19 although I decided to buy the usb key with the OS already installed for £7 (if im happy with it then I can just buy my own keys from ebuyer for like £4 and do it myself).
Its only 175mhz with 16mb but it beats trying to fight protection a manufacturer has put on a router and its near enough the same as ebay prices. I only want to run some basic python web scraping scripts and sell it as a device so it should be fine and it works out to be about £25 for a full system you can sell on ..
£19 - board
£2.50 - power cable
£4 - usb 1gb (could prob go lower/cheaper than this!)
£xyz box...
I guess the difference is that you can get a NSLU2 for about £50 (as usual just convert U.S dollar sign to £ and you get the UK price) whereas the cheapest QNAP boxes seem to start @ about £110??
I wanted to build a standalone system which does XYZ over ethernet but single board computers, embedded systems etc all start at about £100 with a possibility of not being able to use linux wheras you can pickup the NSLU2 cheap and know its gonna work. Rebox it, install your app, job done!
I have also been looking at all the old thin clients you can get on ebay for about £10 each which usually have 200-300mhz processors but it seems hit and miss getting linux to run on them which is a shame! I found some documentation on putting it on the *something* T20 models but it looked like quite a lot of work!
I got stop searched in liverpool street the other day for "counter terrorism" and the first thing the guy said to me was "DO.. YOU.. SPEAK.. ENG GLISHHH?"... Uh yeah mate I'm white british from Essex lol!
They had a good ruffle through my bag, asked a couple questions about what I do and where I'm going and off I trundled. To be fair they were quick and courteous throughout the whole thing.
Is anyone else as fed up as me with the constant typos on thereg? Near enough all software including browsers have built in spell checking software now.
Also a habit seems to be repeating things, e.g "then when you when you add the chip it.." (not from an actual article but you get the idea).
BOOOOO!
I think this is quite interesting but I think it would be better if the system tracked eyeball movement and then moved the camera in response.. obviously far more difficult.
A more interesting project I saw before on hackaday was where a guy mounted a camera off the back of his shoulders and set up slightly and wore a pair of goggles. He was literally watching himself walk around as if he was in something like second life.
Infact.. video here: http://www.marcowens.co.uk/avat.html
How about they blur faces/number plates and then run an opt-in scheme? Okay so it would be extremely hard to administer but why exactly do they think its okay to go around taking pictures of everywhere and putting them online.
First they cache the internet without asking first... oh but wait they run a robots.txt scheme so thats okay... Yeah just force people to use a robots.txt scheme otherwise have all their content replicated and cached. What about indexing sites who opt-in, why should people have to opt out.
If I started going around and kissing random people would that be okay if I said "Well you can opt-out by wearing a red scarf. So you do have the choice!".?
If drivers didn't have to worry so much about getting points and loosing their licence then they'd have their eyes on the road more. Instead of having to look around in several places every second looking for a camera and checking you haven't accidently creeped over the speed limit you could just keep your eyes on the road.
Fair point about the laws involved in being in a vehicle while being drunk. But there is the law and then there is common sense. I know many people who regularly sleep in the back of their cars after a night out and have never run into problems. At worst a cop will ask them whats going on and they'll explain they're sleeping it off. Regardless of what people think, the majority of cops aren't actually going out to vicitimise everyone and carry the law out to the exact letter, some have common sense.
