Tell me about it. I worked for an IBM reseller in the late '90's, and I remember loads of corporate cheerleading over 1U servers, thin clients and the 'cloud' (called Application Service Providers then).

Then the .com bubble burst and we all lost our jobs. So I'm experiencing a certain amount of deja vu at the moment.

Did an XP rollout a few years back - unpatched SP1 machines, still connecting over dial-up. Within seconds of being issued an IP address by the RAS server you would start getting pop-ups. At that time, the simple addition of SP2 would have solved most of the problems. Unfortunately the clever souls that created the builds were convinced SP2 "breaks everything", and the clever users kept clicking on the 'Ok' button. Still, fixing their mistakes kept me in a job for a while.

I got told to remove my T-Shirt at Heathrow last year as it had a graphic of an M16 on it. I then had my camera bag searched, and my air blower confiscated as it "resembles a bomb". There were jobsworth "supervisors" crawling out of the woodwork to tell me what I had done wrong. It was a surreal experience.
