Microsoft: 'Prepare for 15 billion more clients'

Somewhat contradictory

So... if this embedded platform of theirs needs even remotely as much attention as this guy claims, who in their right mind would put it on any significant number of devices, let alone billions?

Thanks for the warning anyway, I'll get my coat while SAP R/3 is installing on my coffee maker, that seemed just as reasonable...

Must have?

Now why would an optical drive be a must have nowadays? I think i've used the drive in my Macbook precisely once, to install a fresh OS copy on it but even that can be done from another HDD or across the network.

For carrying stuff I have a usb flash key and for everything else there are harddrives. No need for long term archival of large-but-not-really-large quantities of data (apart from the fact that BD-R as long term archive media isn't all proven yet either)

That's the worthless pound for you

If you're looking at the Euro prices you won't see much change. With the Pound having lost so much value in the last months their margins on UK sales must have been rather painful. Apple usually don't change pricing during a product's lifetime.

So with the model change they adapted to the exchange rates (and probably include the bad outlook).

Paris, because I'm sure she wouldn't get it, either.

faulty USB port?

Looks very much like a badly inserted or damaged plug shorting out. Normally you'd expect your mainboard to simply cut the power to the faulty USB plug, but if that doesn't happen (e.g. because your board or USB card is garbage) this is pretty much the result I'd expect.

I mean... this is evidently a connector problem not being any issue when properly fused and this type of charging cable has been around for years without changes.

No news here, i'll better get my coat...
