I think the first post missed a very big part of their American Government class. Anyone ever read the Declaration of Independence or the US Constitution.

"That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."

quoted directly from the D. of I. The government answers to and should be afraid of it's people. The people should not be afraid of their own government. I'm sure I'll be attacked left and right for this, but personally, I think the US is in need of a restoration of the original purposes of the government. If this means tearing it down forcefully and starting from scratch with the D. of I. and the Constitution. then so be it.

Banana Republic, Anyone?

While I do agree we the previous comment that someone needs to form a data-haven free country on their own island, there are just a few problems

1. good ol' "w" will just call you a rebel and send in the army to pacify the rebellion

or

2. look what happened to the last country to stand up to the US, Cuba, they're still paying for it decades later with trade embargos. Hell, as a US citizen I can't even visit Cuba without special permits from the gov, or I face arrest upon my return to the US

An American's input

I whole-heartedly agree with Antigua's stance, and am disgusted with the way my government treats other countries and treaties.

All you america-bashers out there, remember, some of us poor american citizens do not agree with our government, and many of us are disgusted with them. But, unfortunetly, there isn't much we can do.

Oh, and if anyone knows a decent country where an American-trained EMT can immigrate and get a similar job easily, let me know, PLEASE!!!

The US should be ashamed

As a US citizen and long time reader of The Register, I am actually in support of Gary, and hope that the Brits grow some balls (pardon my language) and refuse to do Bush's dirty work

Let's be honest. Government computer security over here is a joke, and our legal process is flawed and rampant with prosecutors who run pell mell to the courthouse with only half a case. (Take, for example, the giant issue all over our media over here with the Duke Lacrosse Team "Rape" Case)

So in short, I am honeslty ashamed to call myself a citizen of the US at this point.

And I absolutely did not vote for Bush.
