Re: Ye Typo

In France the same principal exists with Tu and Vous.

Tu = Informal ( When speaking to children , friends and usually parents).

Vous = Formal ( strangers, professionals, tutors, etc and sometime ones Parents).

There still remain times when it is uncertain but an unwritten principal goes along the lines of : When you have shared a meal together/got drunk together at least once, then you can begin to Tutoyer ( Use the Tu version).

Et voila....c'est tout

Alternative solution(s)

I think a better idea would be that an indication appears on the delivery note stating that it is acceptable to deliver to a neighbour. ( The neighbour's address would have to be present to avoid confusion). This could be predetermined when the purchase was made, where possible.

For parcels non marked then the defacto delivery mode should be used.

This would help avoid embarrsing yourself or the neighbour with unnecassary signs.

or otherwise you could mandate your neighbour on a permanent basis by filling out a little mandate form down at the local Post Office....

I sincerely hope that they don't completely fail. BES is an essential part of our company and for the moment there are no viable alternatives.

Alternatives :

Android = Not trusted.

MS = A little bit shaky - W8 isn't quite ready and appears to be a risk. Might be the eventual solution though.

Apple = C'mon guys get serious were talking corporate not Fanboi.

Re: Want

Definately agree with the above. For me the whole point of a smart phone/ 7" tablet is the fact that it is an independant internet connected device.

When I am on the tram in the morning i do not want to pull out the tablet AND my telephone, the faffing about setting up tethering.

I had the Galaxy Tab 3G and have subsequently moved on to the Galaxy Note, both very independant and capable devices. I would like the Nexus 7 for JB, but not if I have to tether it.

When a device becomes dependant on another device it , for me, it loses all interest.

We have managed to pollute the land, the air and the space with our presence, so now we move into the last remaining sanctuary, the sea.

There really is no end to human destruction and it is always for some impossible dream of "making things better for everyone".

It's about time we stopped "moving forward" and took a step back, looked at the mess we have made, cleaned it up and then started living truly sustainable lives and not the corporate, "I want it know", lifestyles that we are permanently presented.

* No, I do not have any good sources or information requiring the purchase of cheap material.

* Trying to run an IT department on an ever decreasing budget but with increasing demands..

* Endless reports to the upper echelons which will be used to further prove that the workforce can be reduced.

* The installation and maintenance of hardware OUTSIDE of office hours. No, the hours are not always paid.

* Being on call 365 days a year.

And what are the advantages.

* You get to choose your own laptop - as long as its a Dell, double whoopy f***ing do.

Open-source password keeper to get 'minor' weekend security fix

Khaptain Silver badge

Minor is a bit of an understatement

You mean you have to decrypt or use the password on an existing keepass database, open an entry and paste or type a malicious URL without realising it. That's pushing things a bit far.

Ok, you could import an existing database but then it means you are importing from an "untrusted" source anyway. I dont know many people that habitually exchange password databases.

I agree it's excellent that the dev acknowledges and will repair the "very extremely minor, almost unfeasible error". Kudos to the dev.

The problem with operators

Knowing Orange France, I would be a little worried about

* I would have to pay for this service. ( This is a presumption on my behalf)

* Support when payment transaction problems arise. ( Who would I contact, the Telco, Microsoft ; Visa, Mastercard, the shop owner) ?

* Being locked down to an Operator only SIM card and possibly long term contracts.

* The "inevitable administrative problems" when trying to change operator.

* Network unavailability.

* Orange is kind of a state owned affair.

( Some, if not most of these problems, would also apply to other operators)

One court order could gag EVERY ISP in Denmark

Khaptain Silver badge

Hypothetically speaking

Let's think for a moment what would be the "real" result if all of the "illegal content/copyright infringement" sites were to be made unavailable.

* Would those that use those sites suddenly start "buying" things with money they don't have in the first place ?

* Would artists start to get paid more with money that never existed ?

* Would the copyright holders magically start milking the imaginary cash cow ?

Of course they bloody wouldn't. All of the arguments held by the BMI, the MFIAA etc all involve an imaginary cash cow that will somehow magically re-appear and create an enormous flow of wealth for all concerned parties.

When will we see an end to this futile vision.

Windows 8 'harder for malware to exploit', says security analysis

Khaptain Silver badge

Hold on a moment

Security Experts and Malware writers are generally not the same beast. Their center of interest, financial gain, usually don't deal with the same people and not on the same level.

The only way to know if a system is more secure is to release it to the public and wait until it gains a large user base.

The OS itself is only one element in the equation, it is also necassary to test and verify applications and their integration, plugins, drivers and the stupidity of users ...

The malware writers and vxers have time on their hand to discover exploits, they will patiently plug away until they find something.

MS are continualy publishing security updates updates for all of their OS's, my WSUS server has updates almost daily . It is hard to believe that this trend will slow down in the immediate future.

Although I would be more than happy to be proved wrong.
