Khosla can't write

Go read the blog entry McCarthy linked to. The one actually authored by Khosla.

It's a pathetic exhibition of bad grammar, worse logic, scattershot thinking, heaped cliches.

If his "liberal sciences" curriculum could help, he should be its first student.

But I don't think it could.

Thumb Up

Thanks for an entirely apt -- even brilliant -- analogy.

Synths of the father: Making some noise at NAMM 2015

The thing about analog is not so much the patch cords, but the live controls. Everything hinges, I guess, on whether you're thinking "keyboard instrument" or "abstract, non-tonal, continuously morphing instrument". Back in the 70's, doing improvisation classes at the Boston School of Electronic Music, the first requirement I established was disconnecting all the keyboards.

I guess there are things happening today in synth controllers. Wish the article had talked more about that.

So, what's the best sci-fi film never made?

But but nobody's mentioned...

The Earthsea series of Ursula Le Guin. Ok, ok, this is fantasy, not SF, but it's incomparably greater writing than most of the sf names mentioned so far. And it has the best dragons ever.

And for SF properly speaking, how about Greg Bear's Forge of God (not sure if I've got the title exactly right)? The closing chapters, watching the destruction of the earth, still give me the shudders. There were elements in "2012" from a couple of years ago that tasted a little like Greg Bear's story, perverted and cheapened. A real production of his might be able to clean that bad taste out of my mouth.
