At least here in the States, Apple keeps a tight grip on the device and allows no carrier apps to be installed for the time being (will see how the verizon phone holds up). This is one of the primary reasons I left verizon and got the iphone. The networks don't want to end up a utility because the margins in that are terrible with absurdly high capex to keep up with technology. Granted on the iphone you end up with the apple apps (mobile itunes, app store, maps , etc.) but I feel that is the lesser of two evils. I bought the device for the device's apps, not the carrier's. No one buys a computer to have all their advertised crap on it (referencing PC's here as macs come mostly 3rd party free) but on the flip side you can always uninstall it without having to "root" your own computer.

I think he just wanted to mention the inconsistency through the article using GB and Gb randomly and also style choice to compare the RAM in different metrics (GB for the Slate and the Gb for the iPad)

Also like someone mentioned, it is touch capacitive with sophisticated mutlitouch capability. I recently discovered the magic mouse can identify 5 independent touching points and imagine the iPad can at least do that thus making it probably quite useful for your needs.

Don't let those guys rile you up. Enjoy your iPad and let them whine. If they really didn't want one, they wouldn't feel the incessant need to flame it - they would just ignore it. Like i do to most PCs :)

I agree that there may be some issues with Apple as well, but it is (havent tried it) relatively easy to remove Safari from your computer as its not tied into the OS like IE. With IE's MSHTML.dll is called by many programs for drawing windows and other OS GUI objects. Explorer, Google talk, AIM, etc and quite a few others use it.

An easy fix i think for apple or MS may be as simple as having a weblink that says "Click here to install Firefox (or other alternate browser)" appear on the desktop or in the applications folder.

While the comment was sarcastic I think that the free market would have more than taken care of this. So 63% of people don't want cellphones on planes mean that 37% would like cellphones or are indifferent (a significant market). Airlines would then have to align themselves either for or against allowing cell usage on planes. Don't like calls on their flights, go with NoCellAir... I think you get the idea.

This is clearly a case where a lawmaker wants his preference the norm, or is looking to get some publicity for himself. Either way, bad reasons to make a law to govern the whole of the populace, cell phone loving or not.
