Thumb Up

Or would you prefer 10G free from an English outfit?

I recently interviewed with http://humyo.com (sadly my OO Perl isn't up to snuff - okay, it's non-existent, but I learn fast ;) and their product seemed to be spot on to me.

Bang!

I love my 705 (clunky as anything, but good and solid), but...

The "codec whinge" is annoying, but nowhere near as annoying as the fact of the missing codecs.

It's not like they can use price as a justification - "they'd be even more expensive" doesn't really cut it.

So, much as I love my 705, I'm not going to buy another Archos product if it doesn't come with proper codec support built in. Once bitten, twice shy.

Unhappy

My 705 is lovely, this looks great, but...

I'm me-too-ing two of the usual three gripes:

i) Charging for codecs p*sses me off

ii) Closed UI really p*sses me off since it's presumably there to support (i) and I'd love to tinker.

Charging for optional h/w would be fine, if it weren't that they go OTT with the cost.

So unless they get those two main issues sorted, my 705 is likely to remain my last Archos purchase. Sad, since they make really solid h/w.

MySQL chief recommits to Linux under Sun

It's the other way around surely?

I'm more concerned that progress will be slowed for Postgres. Our customers seem to prefer MySQL, but internally we've needed a more reliable database. Yes MySQL has improved of late, but upgrading Pg is preferable to porting to MySQL.
