virgin mobile

I recently updated my sim only contract with virgin mobile to include net usage (extra £3 a monthe for 1 GB). The first person i spoke to said any laptop usage would be charged at an astonishing £5 per MB! I requested a callback from someone on the technical team.

When the guy called me back he said that there was no technical difference between data transfered over the network to a phone or data transfered over the network to a phone and then to a laptop. As long as you stay within the limit no extra charges.

RE: Dragon's Den?

The device shown at the end of the last series of dragons den (the Standby Saver) contained a rechargeable battery and learned the 'off' signal from your remote.

therefore it has 2 distinct advantages over this product.

1 - when in standby, the device uses NO electricity

2 - no extra remote to loose

RE: FMS?

well, if you look at it, it has a slight dotted line under it. hover over it the full wording comes up either in the status bar in opera or as a tool tip in firefox. if you are still using IE then you dont deserve to know what it means.

for those of you who dont know, but give 2 hoots, how this is done - its the semantic tag <abbr> and its title attribute.

Nice to see that you guys are using nice web standards :D

Dell trips over printer cable

imacoder.net

USB Cable - £14?!?!?!?!?!

How can they get away with charging £14 for a USB cable? at online retailers you can pick one up for a few quid. i would expect to pay £5 from dell.

also consider the volume of these things that dell buys means unit costs must be in the pennies - that roughly equates to 1400% mark-up!! criminal!!!

Dragons Den

During the last series of the BBC's Dragons Den, someone came on with something along the lines of having a media canter built into a coffee table. The idea was ripped to shreds by the Dragons. Mostly it was the ergonomics, but i think the prices he mentioned were simlar, and they said it was too much.

I personally think that this would be a nice INPUT device, kinda like an advanced graphics tablet, hooked up to a PC.

Pipex to shutter UK Bulldog call centres

imacoder.net

only now?

As far as i have know, only Sales for Bulldog have ever been uk based. Every call i have made to them seems to be trasfured somewhere else in the world. Quite often it has been Malta - and there is an awful delayed echo on the line (not something u'd expect from a TELECOMUNICATIONS company!).

I'm not going to go into full details here, but Bulldog are crap. the agents on the phones know nothing and just constantly repeat the same things not actually listening to the customer.

Also their refunds department don't even know which cards they accept!!! I had my Solo card details taken 4 times (over a period of over 3 months) before they told me that they couldnt take them!

Orange punts two year lock-in

Telewest dn't sell TVs

in response to 'Orange bites back!', specificaly

'When my TV breaks down, I don't ring Telewest demanding a free TV else I wont pay my bill.'

If Telewest had sold u the TV you would say that or if your set top box broke you wouldnt pay the bill.

also if it was the petrol from Sainsbuy's that had made your car break, you'd expext them to pay to fix it.

also i dn't agree with everything that was said in 'Wising up to the upgrade con', but i like the idea of having cheap contracts and no phone subsidies.

Another option would be to get a cheap, short, contract (£5-15) and add different phones for X amount each month for a minimum Y months, this way its possible to get your chosen hand set and not have to pay out a lump sum for it. also, this would work well for upgrades because people could do it whenever they felt the need, for a monthly cost.

Moving on, when my upgrade came round (12 months @ £30), i asked O2 how much they would reduce my bill by if i didn't take a new handset. their offer...£100 credit! I mean if i were to take the hand sets they were offering i could have ebayed them for more than that! they wouldnt even spread it accross they year to reduce my monthly out goings. i ended up with a free windows smart phone with DAB radio from virgin and more mins & txt than i could use for £25/pm.

virgin state up front that you can have a new phone in 12 months or reduce the price of the contract by £5/pm if you dont want an upgrade.

And finally, from personal experience, only my Samsung i300 and Nokia 3210 have even been fit to use after a year, my SE T68i and T610 were in tatters and had pore battry life and other little niggles from around month 11.
