This is about nurturing a bank balance, not nurturing youngsters in the pursuit of education.
I cannot see any university aspiring teenager getting any useful information from Linked In that could not be found elsewhere. Elsewhere places that don't request personal and private data in order to pass on that information.
Don't get mobile on contract.
Step 2. Buy phone from out of town anonymously or lie.
Step 3. Buy SIM anonymously or lie from out of town.
Step 4. Never leave switched on in a 4+(paranoia dependent) mile radius of home.
Step 5. Buy top-ups with cash.
As one is always tracked by the telco, and this can not be avoided, the data collected this way provides some anonymity. Do you need to be that anonymous? The problem lies with the data getting into the wrong hands, and most hands that aren't your own are the wrong hands.
The tracking Apple proposes is easy to avoid. Switch of the feature and if one can't, get a phone on which one can.
For a (n informed) consumer there is choice. And readers, as many of you are IT professionals, this shouldn't be a problem. It depends on how deeply one feels for the uninformed sheep I suppose....Bear in mind that their consumption, just like mine supports very rich people and keeps wage slaves in work.

So many systems belonging to large corps are compromised so often that I think it is obvious that ones data is not safe in the hands of any company with Internet facing servers. I like to think that I know a bit about securing data and networked systems. The truth of the matter is that there will always be someone who could simply walk through any security measures I employ. I don't believe that there is any such thing as a secure system. Even if code and hardware can be made 100% secure, if a person other than oneself has access, it can be compromised.
It seems NoScript, Adblock, BetterPrivacy, Ref Control, CookieMonster and User Agent Addons for Firefox do a pretty good job of hiding or misreporting the data sent/available during the session.
Basically BrowserSpy.dk reported my IP address, Browser, OS and DNS service correctly and precious little else.
I didn't enable scripts for the page, that would defeat the purpose of having NoScript. The downside of not allowing scripts to run is not knowing which tests rely on javascripting to display results and which tests rely on it to harvest data.

It is just common sense that easily oxidizable metal be covered in a non-oxidizing coating, this has been happening for years.
What I find intriguing is that anyone would want to mount their phone/mp3 player/fondleslab to a fridge door or any vertical metal surface. Perhaps I don't have the insight, imagination. It runs an Google developed shell/GUI on top of a modified Linux kernel.
It is exploitable because it was designed with revenue generation as opposed to security in mind.

Every application asks for ridiculous permissions on install? No user will notice anything out of the ordinary. Why do they need those permissions? Profiling, tracking, advertising.... revenue generation.
I'm not defending Android, out of the tin it is not to be trusted. Perhaps it shouldn't be trusted when rooted, and "locked down" I shrug, even when I think I own my Android, I will never trust it with my bank details.
Being forced to go to Sunday school, being told that if I didn't capitulate to the rules of a religious system that fed me stories similar to those of the brothers Grimm. And the promise of eternal damnation if I didn't acquiesce was almost enough to sway me from my indoctrination. Even as a child I could see there was something wrong with this. Discovering that almost every religion on the planet prays to a different god convinced me that god is indeed a product of human imagination.
I don't need to read any book to see the obvious, just a critical mind that only accepts reasonable and verifiable explanations.

Would the words of an advertiser selling product by providing unverifiable information about that product and threatening the end user with eternal damnation if they didn't buy it be considered free speech?

I can think of several organisations that spout just as much nonsense if not more, many of them are registered as charities. They have big buildings with pointy tops in most if not all towns and cities throughout the UK.
Accepting that many of them actually do good work for the community, they should still be bound by law not to promote their own brand of superstition as fact.

Script kiddie easy to train... " Here's Metasploit.... Clicking this button will cause an attempted exploit against the numbers (IP addresses) you enter into this box" They don't need much in the way of imagination or creative thought.
World class hackers can possibly be trained, but they have to be smart and capable of creative, lateral thinking and have a good imagination and visualisation skills to put the training into practice.
A self trained world class hacker is a different beast entirely. Not only do they need all the cognitive and mental skills of the trained world class hacker they also need passion and commitment to get to the next level with no assistance. They find exploits where none are thought to exist. The first thing a good world class hacker learns is how not to get caught. If they don't learn this then they ain't a world class hacker.
Trust has to be earned. There is not an institution, organisation or commercial enterprise anywhere in existance on this planet that has earned my complete trust. In my lifetime a handful of people have earned my trust, a couple of them betrayed that trust.
When one loves someone and one believes that that person loves you back, yet they can fuck you over in a heartbeat, how the fuck can anyone with emotion and intelligence trust a faceless entity?
Some do consider me paranoid, I just shrug my shoulders and expect to be dead before society evolves into something where I need to take arms to protect my loved ones.... Fortunately for me. Not so for my child.
Of course the majority of these features have been implemented and have been in use by many admins of NT/Win2000/Server with the aid of scripting and third party apps for years. Nice of MS to make things a little easier.

being spooked by magnetism when I was a kid. That was action at a distance I just couldn't get my head around. I understand magnetism now, quantum entanglement takes a whole new level of understanding.
Unless our concept of causality and the 2nd law of thermodynamics is all wrong, something unseen or invisible must be interacting with the 2nd entangled photon causing that photon to change quantum state in harmony with the manipulation of the 1st.
If this action at a distance took place a the speed of light there might well be classical explanation for it but we are talking instantaneous action at a distance and since nothing in the visible universe can travel faster than c.... I think we have a lot to learn about the structure of reality.
Our senses evolved perfectly for surviving in our environment The sensitivity of all our senses is very limited in that we only see a very tiny part of the electromagnetic spectrum, we can't see the curvature of space. We can understand the effects of these "invisible" features of the Universe by measuring what we deduce are the right things.(light spectra, the motions of planets, etc.). We have wondered well beyond the box that our evolved physical senses placed us in. Just as we have escaped the limits of our senses, common sense maybe the next barrier we have to surpass.... The closer one looks the more weird it all gets.
Failings aside as a species we have done and will continue to do brilliant and amazing things with reality... Providing we keep our imaginations entangled with it.
