Has it crossed the mind of gov that new laws of restriction and banning are NOT going to be abided by law breakers. Only the law abiding follow laws, only the innocent will suffer.

Terrorisrt two: "OK I best stop, wouldn't want to break any laws"

Re: Everyone forgets the rules, don't they?

Unfortunately most people don't know the rules or even that there are rules, beyond... Thou shall not troll.

As far I am aware, not one single website that stores user data states in the plain native language of country of target audience exactly what happens with and to that data. Other than it might be shared with 3rd parties and "our partners". Along with promises of security that cannot be met.

Trust needs to be placed in the Internet for the commercially desirable oil data to flow. Honesty about the robustness of Internet infrastructure and the fact that a few of those foible inflicted humans have complete control over that data is never mentioned.

Of course should the truth be told and that it is security by obscurity that assists the protection of much data... you are but a needle in a haystack of needles. (I know the needles are getting easier to find)

Never will you read in the T&C's...

We have no clue what happens to your data after we have shared it.

Should our IT admin develop a gambling/drug habit or is blackmailed we cannot guarantee the security of your data.

We are working on a budget to be competitive, we can't afford to hire expert coders or finance a full blown pen test. We believe our systems are secure because Nancy in HR who did a Wordpress class has tested them.

I am sure all major consumer doodad manufacturers insist, and publicly so, that the most stringent policies for employee welfare are enforced.

It is easier for the western consumer to buy the doodad if he or she feels no furry animals were hurt in it's manufacture.

The same company will of course also insist that the unit price of the doodad makes adherence to that policy financially impossible for the manufacturer.

yes

and I wish to keep it that way.

They are not friends, we have an understanding. I know all my clients by first name, where they live, what they do for a living. And a bunch of stuff I care little for nor would ever share.

At times it would be nice not knowing them, seeing them only as figures on a balance sheet. It would be much easier to get rid of them. (the customer isn't always right)

What ever my personal feelings toward my clients are, I want to know that they are satisfied and are recommending me to others. I want to be proud of the results of what I am paid to do. I care more for my reputation than I do for the £'s I could easily fleece from those without the experience and skills I myself have developed.

Mind you I am getting on a bit and a life of riches is more slippers and Ovaltine than Ferraris and cocaine at this stage.

"...all part of Microsoft's effort to unite the desktop, server, and mobile versions of its OS around a single, common core."

I would hazard a guess as to that core being Microsoft servers/cloud. I cant help thinking that Microsoft would like Windows to fit the SaaS model. The design look and feel of Windows has slowly evolved such that there has been less and less distinction between local and remote/Internet content. Imho in a few more iterations of Windows there will be no difference at all.

I am sure many large software houses would like to see the end user in a computing environment over which they have little or no control, tied to a subscription.

If you don't already you might want to look into supporting open source alternatives and not just for operating systems.

I use Windows 7 and it's great for the things I use it for.. As it CentOS and Linux Mint, the right tool for the right job, or my preferred tool for the job. Whatever, the point is, I want my data local and I want to choose what my OS does when I am not looking. I want to choose my default programs and utilities I do not want to spend several hours changing settings in order to stop the OS and the web browser and the media player and umpteen other bits of software from phoning home first opportunity they get and henceforth ever after.

Who's idea of extreme?

Mr Cameron with all due respect, what right do you or any appointed body have to determine that which I will or will not find extreme? I presume I will be asked and will have an option. Or are such decisions beyond my easily swayed mind and should be left to higher mortals?

I am fucking sick of being patronised, I know what is right and wrong. Unfortunately you don't Mr Cameron. Therefore I disagree with you Mr Cameron. I would like to voice my disagreement or dissent (dangerous word I expect) in a peaceful and lucid way via the power of words.

Oh my, it seems my website with it's logical alternative policies and the eloquent rebuttal of all your arguments has been deemed extreme and cannot be viewed by anyone.

Do you have a clue about anything beyond your seemingly obsessive desire to control every aspect of our lives and create a sterile, smothered society capable of nothing but capitulation?

You earn trust, respect and a following. It's as simple as that. Trying to hide alternative views and approaches to which is "accepted" by calling them extreme will do nothing but generate mistrust.

I accept there is extremism out there Mr Cameron. Who the fuck are you to determine what is extreme? And why am I not able to determine that for myself?

Whilst I commend this innitiative...

and may look towards getting involved.

Without general public awareness of this initiative and the technology involved being described at the level which the average lay person can understand, this will become niche, available only to those with such awareness.

Public awareness is paramount in such an initiative and whilst I respect the skills and level of knowledge of those involved with this. I don't expect the general public to have a clue as to the credentials or expertise of these people. Such initiatives need promotion on news programs and the leading sponsored adverts for the various TV programming that the populous watches.

I think this is a good thing but is useless unless it is a resource that is accessible and understandable by the average person. Most of all they need to be aware of its existence.

London cops cuff 20-year-old man for unblocking blocked websites

adnim

Sites are blocked....

Because they contravene some UK based law, making them illegal.

Viewing or reading certain images or words has been deemed illegal by a group of people who think they know best. To protect the children UK populous from itself and from unwittingly happening upon illegal content and thus breaking the law, it was deemed that it would be pro-active to block access to illegal words and images.

Thus accessing sites on the block list means that you will be breaking the law by viewing illegal content. These sites are blocked *because* they contain illegal content, not because the content might be truthful, exposing, honest, alternative or sincere. All blocked sites are blocked because viewing them would result in illegal activity.

So was the person offering the proxy was encouraging a crime to be committed?

This is so wrong it is scary. By this judgement all it takes is a bot herding mail spammer to attach a picture of a naked under age child to a spam mail and everyone who gets the email is guilty of possessing indecent images of children.
