Oh yes really fascinating
Christ, you people are one tiny step away from trainspotters, I swear.

Pffffft, I'd flog ANY company data for a tidy sum given half a chance.
What? Are we meant to feel some kind of loyalty herre? Dream on. Only a rampant idiot would be loyal to an organisation that doesn't give a shit about them. I've never worked for anyone who didn't "try it on" at some time or other, trying to wriggle out of pay, holidays, rises, promotion etc. etc. It's simply common sense - when companies turn it into a game, then both sides can play.
Didn't the Beatles get a huge promotional leg-up from the 60's pirate radio stations that used to anchor off the British coast (Radio Caroline etc.)?
Anyway, I'd be suprised if Sir Macca had any understanding of what's actually going on and probably just follows what the misinformed press says. His comment seems as generic as it gets. Clueless old fart!

Believe it now? Ok keep going then...

@AC: How do rentals "harm the industry"? Someone has already BOUGHT a copy. You might as well say customers lending games to their mates is harming the industry. The rentals/re-sale industry is just as valid as the games industry.
Everyone has the RIGHT to resell whatever they want and lend it to whoever they want, whenever they want, as many times as they want. End of.
Customers make those decisions... not you or any games company, and dirty tricks to prevent that won't be tolerated, much the same way DRM wasn't tolerated. Stop trying to shaft the customer, you greedy, greedy bastards.
Ha, my brother is with VM and we both know a couple of lads who work for VM - one of which is able to cancel/reset the throttling/usage for my brother whenever he needs it - after a quick phone call, which he makes all the time these days tbh. Furthermore, the VM lads both said that throttling occurs at just about ANY time and the "4-9pm" stuff was, basically, bullshit. I must say, the 3-4 weeks I remained with VM after they started throttling seemed to suggest that it occured outside of the stated hours and my brother is of similar opinion. Anyone know of any tests done on this?
It's always only a matter of time before some unix tosser posts a command line to prove how ultra-mega-super-intelligent they are, and thus simultaneously proving why it will never replace Windows as the OS of choice. Unfortunately, high levels of tosspottery in their system prevent them from comprehending this. That is the unix paradox: thou will never replace Windows until thy command line be gone... but how can thou prance superiorly about without thine command line?
"AVG again used to be great, until the day it deleted zip files on my machine without asking my authorisation first. These zips contained harmless reg files.
These days I'm happy with Avast home edition, XP SP3 firewall and my NAT router...
On countless occasions I've advised home users to go the same route, it saves the hassle of them clicking "yes" to every zone alarm alert and letting a dodgy file through."
Haha, brilliant. First, set up your software properly. AVG, or any other piece of software, does not just delete things when it feels like. Secondly, XP firewall is only half a firewall. Third, isn't it terrible when you have to take a bit of responsibilty youself?
As for bigolslabomeat telling people to turn ZoneAlarm off and "the problem goes away". Yes, but only from idiots like you. Somebody else usually ends up with a much worse problem thanks to your idiocy.
There's too much other bollocks in these comments to reply too. No wonder mal/spy-ware is so big a problem these days with clueless morons like this loose on the net.
All I know is I'm getting 15.5Mbs for £10 compared to 4Mbs for £25 off VM. After one phone call I got a setting changed to decrease my latency in online games to lower than VM's was. The connection is solid, has been completely problem free and is neither throttled nor Phormed.
I couldn't give a toss what everyone else's experience is or isn't. I'm laughing mate so stick that in yer pipe and smoke it. Muahahaha!
It's quite obvious that M&S are employing paedophiles. They are obviously using the customer service phone system to get access to youngsters in order to groom them. Do M&S carry out checks to ensure sex offenders aren't operating for them and taking advantage of youngsters?
If people want to be awkward/stupid......then you fight fire with fire...
Considering there is no information as to how this has transpired, don't you think you're jumping the gun here? I know you need to tell everyone how superior your intellect is because you use a 1970's command prompt 50% of the time (OH THE POWER OF THE COMMAND PROMPT) but until the cause is directed at Windows (which it probably won't be) then quit pushing your little Linux agendas.
Usually, these type of things result in C&D takedown notices all over the place in attempts to kill negative publicity. It's refreshing to see that they realise the value of this publicity and are using it positively for their benefit. In other words, even though they won't use the image, it has basically done it's job anyway!
When they first introduced throttling I found out about it here, along with the premium rate phone call changes to customer services. A couple of days after I noticed it's effects on my connection I phoned tech support (on the bloody premium rate) and complained I had a "problem" with my connection. I described the throttling scenario exactly (fine all day.. half speed at night etc.) and the clown on the line started getting me to reboot the router etc. etc. After persevering for a short while (time is money on VM tech support lines!!) just to see how long this would go on I interupted him and asked when he was going to mention throttling. I also asked why there had been no phone call, letter, email, carrier pigeon notifying VM customers of these things. His response? It's been in all the papers!
I cancelled there and then. 3 days into the new throttling regime. Not having it.
And btw, I found speeds were 'dodgy' outside of their so-called throttling hours and some friends I speak to who worked for BY and now VM say it's bullshit and they throttle anytime.
Ditch 'em. Send the message.
Been in Liverpool all my life, scouser born and bred. I hate (HATE) the pathetic scouse sentimentality. I cannot even bring myself to listen to the local radio stations that are saturated with it. And, for the record, nobody laughs more at the Capital of Culture moniker than the Liverpudlians themselves. Although the city has a far richer and greater history than most other British cities, for sure. You probably don't know that. Educate yourselves.
Then I wonder what it is that attracts such hatred for a particular city. It's definitely there, just read the comments above. Why IS Liverpool targeted like that? An interesting past social experiment - at Hillsborough the Sun claimed that scousers were "pissing on, and stealing from, the still warm bodies of the dead.". Not the actions of one person, not even just a few people, but scousers in general, were pissing on and stealing from dead bodies.
Now then, the only reason that headline ran was because of PEOPLE LIKE YOURSELVES. Because, like the attitude of virtually all of the posters here, people would simply believe it as true, based on what they thought and expected of Liverpudlians. This is the mentality we see all the time unfortunately. Your comments prove that easily. And I'm sickened to see that this bullshit continues and is even present here on the Reg.
Your prejudices and social stereotyping makes me sick. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Crime is no different than any other big city. It's what happens when large populations inhabit small areas. In that regard, records show other English cities to be far worse than Liverpool.
@CHRIS: feel free to highlight this as proof from a true "Cretinous, self-absorbed mutant"... "getting outraged at the attack on 'his wonderful city'". None of this post counts at all. Scousers do not qualify for the civil liberty of defending themselves.
