But is it web scale?

OneDrive on my Mac regularly kicks up to over 100% CPU usage and makes the fans spin. This week it has steadfastly refused to synchronise anything upwards and I've had to revert to manually uploading files via the web interface to SharePoint.
OneDrive is a crock of sh*te regardless of how many bits it uses to address file and code space.
...really?
A group of humans built that IT system. I think it might be a while before a similarly-sized group of humans manages to build a complex, multi-cellular organism like a mouse. There's probably one or two lines missing from your mouse network diagram, plus that whole real-time, massively-parallel, multiple-sensor to consider.
Nice analogy, but don't over-sell yourself.
If your intention is to introduce PHP, why confuse the issue with the DB2 focus. Regardless of that, why not introduce PDO as a means of accessing databases given that it is (supposed) to give a database independence.
This is frankly uninspiring stuff. Even IBM suggest using PDO (and that in an article dated March 2005 - http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/db2/library/techarticle/dm-0505furlong/)
I suggest that you abandon this series of tutorials and start again with a better idea of what you are trying to achieve and how you are going to do it.
