azure is a powerpoint slide with the product name in a big box at the bottom, and above it the names of other existing products - but each one with the word 'services' after it - in smaller boxes
i.e. just like the rest of microsoft's enterprise software offerings.
What's the problem with using speed cameras as a cynical revenue raising measure anyway? Let's not forget these cameras only catch people who are BREAKING THE LAW.
If the government has to raise a certain amount of revenue, I would rather they taxed people who choose to break the law more than those who don't. And while we're at it, let's get rid of all the warning signs and have the cameras properly camouflaged so that people can't just slow down for 100 yards and then start driving ILLEGALLY again once they're past the camera. That would raise even more tax.
I'm sick of this popular opinion that, for speeding offences it's ok to break the law as long as you can get away with it? We wouldn't accept that for any other area of law.
So, in return for a year of constant crashes, 5 minute boot times, slowdowns, UAC warnings, unreliability and unusability with vista, I finally get to smugly turn round to the plebs using XP and say "ha! I'm marginally less susceptible to this vuln than you weenies ". Or at least I would be if we weren't using a firewall. Until they've installed the patch of course, in which case they're not susceptible to it either.
BIG BLOODY DEAL
If you added up the man hours spent cleaning up the mess from blaster, sasser et all, I bet it would pale into insignificance compared to the time spent trying to clean up the mess caused by vista.
Also, anyone notice that this patch is "beta" and no support is offered my microsoft. So you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't.
While I agree with the comments about vista (my overall impression is that as well as the resource usage, it's simply "not finished yet"), I would like to add a word of caution about downgrading.
Several colleagues of mine had Dell Latitude laptops (I don't know the exact model) that were preloaded with vista. After downgrading to XP they had some problems with instability and eventually had to revert to vista again.
So don't take it for granted that vista-certified hardware will work with XP. Not only will the manufacturer not support it if you have changed the OS, you might be letting yourself in for stability/driver problems.
