responsible for your actions

As the right says, everyone must be held accountable for their actions especially if they are black and poor. Rich people are naturally more favored by God and better people so of course we need to make dilluted crack cocaine 100x more illegal than white guy preferred pure cocaine. Like I said this guy is trash and deserves to die and far too many poor people blame the system for their shortcomings but also far too many suburban neighborhood association fat people think money makes them better people.

RHEL really?

Linux is linux so distro difference far less than people make out ,once you learn a bit how everything is put together. Still who the hell would use Fedora for anything but a development test environment? If you want stability go RHEL or RHEL based (Centos, etc.). If you want features, the latest code, and usability there are about a dozen distros better than Fedora IMHO.

Re: fair play

Long gone are the days of having to compile in madwifi with each kernel release. Wifi is now largely seemless on linux (thank the netbooks for that) unless perhaps if you are using a bad offbrand card.

Yes even have a box running this and agree the latest Vista SP mascarading as an OS finally got it right three years late. If not for the forced DRM and forced Windows Disadvantage malware crap might actually be a somewhat respectable OS (no wait IE malware portal still embeded in OS - the all time dumbest OS move and what happens when marketing and accountants start giving input to developers).

Which dumb IT person accidentally gave the beloved El Reg link to his clueless Manager of Information Systems. In the States I remember there were three types of students in computer science classes, CS students who once weeded out the chaf usually wrote fairly elegant code, CS/EE students whose code while less elegant was usually very functional and MIS students whose code either wouldn't compile at all or was elegant due to being rich trust fund babys who would pay CS students to write their code for them. Now many years into the real world I realize it is not how good your code that determines your rank in an IT org but how can you outlast everyone else by eating crap and being a yes man. IT is like a tree full of monkeys, nothing but aholes looking up and nothing but smiles looking down.

Adobe man to Apple: 'Go screw yourself'

they both suck

Adobes software is the worse in the industry stability wise and especially security wise. The less Adobe bloat malware you have on a box the better off you are. They also showed the world clearly why outsourcing your code to India is a horrible idea.

Apples business tactics have gotten as bad as Sony's lately. Then again their business model of turning the screws on their dumb fanbois is nothing new. At least unlike Adobe, Apple actually occasionally innovates and creates a decent product.

So in conclusion they both suck but if I had to pick a company to vanish, let it be Adobe. The world would not miss their rubbish (except perhaps crap web designers who think they are developers but world wouldn't miss them much either).

Intel not HP whooping butt

>Intel is going to win one way or the other, with AMD happy to ride along on their coattails. The pincer attack of Itanium in the high-end and Xeon from below has already killed Sun, why should Intel or hp let up the pressure on Fudgeitso and IBM when the tactics are working so well?

For the record the amount of pressure HP with the Itanium is actually putting on IBM is near zero. x86 perhaps more and probably most in services. My impression is that IBM doesn't really want to talk to you on service side unless your talking multimillion dollar. HP is cheaper and most of their consultants I have worked with tend to be very knowledgeable but a bit shifty characters. Nobody ever got fired for selecting IBM but count on the IBM parasite being around awhile. HP more fly by night and have to be careful around them but less likely to have to pay IT tax to them every year.

Just to show I am not shill for any of these companys I will cut them all down. Intel will own Power over the long term unfortunately. HP actually did help this not by putting out the disasterous distraction that is the Itanium but due to giving Intel their IP on designing enterprise chips. Intel doesn't exacly always have its pulse on customers needs and trends (see power hungry P4 disaster when oil went over $100 a barrel) but it does have more money than God and that can overcome many problems (see Core microprocessor savior in record time). It will simply utilize its scale of economy as each generation gets more expensive to push IBM out. IBM has deep pockets too but has a lot less interest in risking it trying to keep up with the Jones (IBM happy to join you if can sell their precious services). In fact I dare say the only reason Power is keeping up so far has to do not with super high end business machines (where margin great and all but volume also super low) but by being able to get a monopoly on this generation of gaming consoles. As far as I can see after losing Apple etc IBMs only hope of keeping up is to continue getting most of the gaming console contracts. Unfortunately after the minor debacle that was the Cell this might not be realistic in a few years time.

>The pincer attack of Itanium in the high-end and Xeon from below has already killed Sun, why should Intel or hp let up the pressure on Fudgeitso and IBM when the tactics are working so well?

I can buy most of what you say but call bullcrap on Itanium killing Sun. Suns own managerial incompetence killed Sun. And has been stated elsewhere the only thing Itanium ever did right was initially cause FUD in the MIPS crowd about going head to head with deep pockets Intel. Not enough decision makers had the foresight of the engineers and knew Merced would show Itanium for what it really was, nothing but a well covered IP grab by Intel for HP few remaining DEC valuables. Funny how many of the whizbang features are showing up in Xeons years before IA64. Besides Sun was never that big of threat to HP. HP's biggest threat is probably other ink makers, as after all HP is the world's highest tech ink seller.

Re: I'd rather have a System Z

Nothing like an shill IBMtard sizing things up. I will second your point that having fewer cpu architectures is indeed a bad thing but the reason Power, Cell, Sparc, etc are getting their ass handed to them by Intel is because Intel is quickly adding features that used to be only found in big iron (some of it by raiding HP's DEC IP) and offering it at a fraction of the cost. Also as for calling them junk they may not be so elegant and all but most of the worlds computing is done on x86 and x64. Some people just want to add computing power without having to get the CFO and sales force involved and being forced to sign a 10 year multimillion dollar support contract for one damn box.

Hacker pledges to re-enable Linux on PS3

what this is all about

Again the OtherOS option from day one was totally out of character for Sony so I was not surprised to learn they only did to try and get the lower tariffs for computers as opposed to consumer electronics in many countries throughout the world. When this failed obviously they dropped this feature like a hot potato as it costs them money and supposedly does give more of an attack surface on their precious broken business model. Honestly so far the PS3 does not seemed to have been hacked but has the PS3 been the cash cow Sony thinks it was going to be? Its attach rate is even worse than the Xbox 360 which has been hacked for a long time. Note to Sony: customers hate DRM and customers not stockholders are what most important in the long term.

PS3 update to rid all consoles of Linux support

asdf
FAIL

whats really going on

As has been stated elsewhere the only reason Sony even bothered with the OtherOS option was because they were trying to get the lower tariffs for computers as opposed to consumer electronics in many countries. After this ruse failed they have had zero interest in maintaining this feature. Makes sense because since when has Sony shown any interest in letting you use their hardware however YOU want. Kinda sad that the only next generation console that is really open to homebrew and still being able to play games online is the WII (token DRM protection but easily defeated).

Bullcrap. DRM will never work and just about every other company besides Sony has accepted this. At some point you have to allow your customers to see your content in plaintext or else they won't buy your stuff. You put something out there and say you can't do anything with YOUR hardware that we don't approve of and guess what, someone will. Holtzs only mistake was being so public about it. Also don't quote the DMCA as it is obviously unconstitutional and doesn't apply outside USA Inc.

EU only chance

As much as I hate to say EU laws are the only way to fight this. American laws are way to big business friendly to waste the time. By the way blaming George Holtz for this is what the Sony astroturfers want us to do. Everything George is doing is morally correct so far because the fact is he is hacking HIS system. He is not trying to run software he doesn't own the right too. Sony is at fault because everyone else in the world has realized what a house of cards DRM is and how artificially trying to protect broken business models in the short term will only cause your business to fail in the long term. Look Sony your system has been largely unbreakable so far but how much profit are reaping these days? What you are in third place even behind lowly M$? It's unbelievable you would go and flip one, not just on new boxes you are shipping, but on tens of millions already in the field.

Again I'm sorry users. Sony, I expected more from you."

This is crap news but I mean what do expect of a company so greedy and with so few ethics they believe there is nothing wrong with loading rootkits on your computer? I mean they really believe they can tell you how to use their products (you think you own the PS3 haha, try lifetime lease unless Sony revokes) and pay through the nose for the privilege.
