Anatomy of a malware scam

Jon

THey tried this on my Ubuntu - FAIL

I was on planetemu.net the other day, and this got pushed to me - very amusing watching the fake scanner etc. I was running Ubuntu! It was very determined though - almost every action pushed up another dialog, as specified in this article. I right clicked the tab and closed it. My Dad however got fooled by this and I had to remove it. He thankfully didn't purchase though!

Skype ignores PayPal siphoning hijack scheme

Jon

I see!

THAT's why I had an attempt to remove skype funds from my paypal account about 2 months ago. I was then locked out of Paypal until I reset my details - they still won't let me do bank debits - and when they unlocked my account there was a mandate to pay agreement thing still left - I deleted that pretty quick! So I guess they might have hacked my skype account initially.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention guys!

eBay Australia ditches PayPal scheme

Stop

hmmm - make it more secure then...

I've recently removed direct debit authorisation from Paypal, after a payment showed up to Skype - it was an on hold payment, and was then cancelled, but I thought that was dodgy enough. Then, about a week and a half later, Paypal inform me that my account has been restricted due to possibly being compromised. I shall not be using Paypal again, and would just cease using Ebay if it became the only payment option.

Cometh the hour, cometh the iPhone SDK

Jon

OK what about the developers who use Windows?

It would have been better to make the iPhone kit work on Windows too - i understand they are trying to push their own brand exclusively, but surely they are missing out on a huge number of developers who won't have access to a Mac. (I wonder what the actual percentages of developers are on Mac and Windows anyway?) At least it's out and it's free though.
