Oprah Winfrey too late to save Microsoft's Windows 8

Is the nursery closed today?

Dear god, people, what a bunch of whining!

Yes, some things in Win 8 are different, but once you figure them out, they are, on the whole, better than in Win 7. I'll agree that Metro apps don't work in that ecosystem, but you can change the default app for file types, so you should never have to end up in a Metro app. The start screen is just a prettier version of the start menu.

Also, anyone on this site who is complaining about the lack of a Start button is just making themselves look like a novice. Surely you just hit the Windows key and start typing?

I don't understand what people wanted from Win 8? Did you expect MS to just make a faster version of Win 7? Are there any changes that you would have tolerated, because it doesn't feel like there are.

EE == 3G & 4G

EE will be selling it on their 3G networks too, so you don't have to go for a 4G plan if you don't want to. I certainly have no intention of paying what they want for 4G, and I'm in a 4G launch city!

Re: Memory Leaks?

I found that MixCloud resulted in memory leaks, but I installed Memory Cleaner (other memory cleaners are available), which trims processes working sets every 5 minutes, and I haven't had a problem with that since.

Firmware upgrade for diskless player?

Has the new UI been ported over to the older diskless Live TV player? I think I'd get one if it has, given that the UI was the main gripe with the Reg review of that unit.

BBC mulls dropping Flash as iPlayer meets iPhone

@Neil Hoskins

It's because the version of Opera on the Wii only has support for Flash 7

http://my.opera.com/haavard/blog/2007/04/13/wii-browser-out-but-why-flash-7-and-not-8-or-9

So, it's more of an issue with Adobe, rather than the BBC, I'd say.
