The total failure could very well be heat related. The power supply and other parts need convection to keep cool. Convection is not possible without gas. Your faulty altitude readings might also be related when the analog voltages went out of regulation or got too noisy. If there are any electoytic caps they might have failed as most are rated to only modest altitudes.
US Mil did for a while have a spec that demanded the physical destruction of flash media. I have been told that they have since relaxed that to where some kind of errasure is sufficent. Silicon Systems was one company I know that made them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicon_Systems_Inc
I appreciate it was a pedantic point of order but... San Francisco and probably the 20 miles surrounding it can safely be referred to as "San Fran" by people who do not live there nor give a shit. I lived for many years in Fort Worth Texas. Now that I don't I tell people I used to live in Dallas for simplicity.
How much programming do you do and what experience do you have with C++ ? I'd like to know how much I should value your opinion because I get the feeling I shouldn't. Personally, I've had nothing but good experiences with C++ but I mostly write low level code with it. I use boost:: where I can as well. For microcontrollers I use C of course.
The old XPS was just magical for its build quality and screen quality. I ordered a new one 2 weeks ago based on the strength of my previous experience and found XPS to be cheaply made crap now. Sent it back and now i'm looking for a new one.
And who uses Ubuntu for development? Shouldn't that be Red Hat/Fedora or at the least Suse? My default Ubuntu install didn't even have g++.
I was reading this on my old laptop thinking about how some people were in for a bit of trouble when it dawned on me. This old Dell laptop is still running XP because the couple Linux installs I tried on it couldn't easily get the wireless working. D'oh. everything else in the house runs linux though.

Since it is mentioned that it is handheld and cheap I must asssume the power requirements are fairly low though. All in all I don't guess I had anything of consequence to say.
Designator warning systems exist already so spend too much time trying to patent it. :) The 8 bitter comment seems like press release drivel where someone summarized a powerpoint of a design review. Of course you will use an 8 bit micro, what else would you use (for the prottype)? When you are ready for production bake an ASIC. Standard stuff really.
The assumption with the unencrypted video was not that it would not be intercepted but that when it was it would be such a narrow FOV with no info overlays that it would be rather useless. Maybe they were wrong but they had to make a choice of fielding something not perfect but good or not fielding.
Other articles I read declare the OV will be a SpaceX Falcon 9 with some aerodynamic surfaces to get it pointed up. The aircraft development will only be the airframe as the engines/ avionics/ everything else will be taken from existing commercial airliners.
As for getting a leg up to space, my quick calculations suggest the carrier plane could provide 0.000003% of the energy the OV will need to get to LEO. The reasoning for this approach must lie elsewhere.
X-rays images work by emitting a beam of X-rays and looking at the shadow they cast on a detector. Does one with x ray vision emit such a beam and look for the reflections? Do surfaces/materials reflect much x-ray or is it all absorbed? Wouldn’t the emitter blind the receivers or would the X-ray source be pulsed? How big would your eyeballs have to be to be able to focus X-rays? I sense a thesis.
I don't believe the bible is divinely inspired but you should check your dates. There are in existence gospels dating back to within 30 years or jebus's end and those are likely transcriptions or versions of oral history. The other books in the New Testey are things like correspondence between early churches and treatese on church doctrine and of course the mindf**k that is the book of revelations. A book I enjoyed that you might as well is "Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why" by Bart D. Ehrman.
If it meets the needs of the mission then why not. The payload is to operate at a 2% duty cycle (from the article) so you can spend all that off time charging the batteries or caps or whatever. I would guess that the solar array is lighter than a nuke power plant and probably cheaper too.
I would suggest this is because Samsung does not have the sway with media (honestly Jobs takes a dump and its front page tech news) and certain members of the population that allow it to create a market segment. If Samsung were first to introduce a tablet device the form factor would be rightly ignored. If this is true then there is no tablet market but instead an iPad market. If you want to play you need to make an iPady device (and make it cheaper too).
The shuttle, as it was designed and built once, had to be able to do any mission asked of it. If you are remaking the vehicle each time it is far easier, though not easy, to tailor the vehicle to your needs. This could in fact be a far greener solution. The fact is that it is very difficult to justify the shuttle's design as a basic people mover.
