Total Inability To Support User Phones: O2 fries, burning data for 32 million Brits

Telboy

Re: Not just O2

If O2 is down 999 and 112 calls will go to another network, try it, take your sim out and screen lock your phone and the dial the emergency services.

In news that will shock absolutely no one, America's cellphone networks throttle vids, strangle rival Skype

Re: Spectrum grows on trees

How many voice calls do Pepe.actually make these days? A voice is a last resort /emergency activity for me, if I am am in the privacy of my home I might make a video call which will probably be on the home Wifi.

First A380 flown in anger to be broken up for parts

Re: This underlines one more thing

I think the empty seats could have had something to do with cancellation

Re: This underlines one more thing

Was awesome - flights were only a few hundred in scum-class, and you always got an empty seat next to you.

I think you'll find the empty seats to be the cause of the cancellation

Roof Strength

When was this roof built? Did it require this design requirement when it was built? ( The roof on my house has been there since it was built in the 1840's, when I bought the house 20 years ago the surveyor said it was liable to fail at any minute and should be replaced as soon as possible, still the same roof I just have not got around to it. Can I sue the mortgage company for mis selling the mortgage against a dogy roof?)

When will people learn that deposing dictators, tyrants and despots rarely has a happy outcome. Yugoslavia Egypt Libya and Iraq spring to mind.

Re: Not a great experience

Many people, including me, predicted that would happen when they sold out to Walmart. Asda is a dump inside now. It reminds me of how Netto used to look.

Will that be the same Netto that Sainsburys has just bought?

Doesn't every body do this on a regular basis? Kill the account and then (old fashioned I know) email the people you want as friends with your new user name.

DVLA website GOES TITSUP on day paper car tax discs retire

Telboy

If you buy a new car, you have to tax it even if it already is taxed by the previous owner.

The reason you have to tax the car when you buy it is to ensure that it is insured and has met the requirements for the MOT. They won't give you new tax until it passes those two tests. Under the old system you could happily drive around with no insurance or MOT. The ANPR camera would have to check three things, now they only have to check for tax. QFS if you think about it.

Middle England's allotments become metric battlefield

Telboy

I have just looked at the deeds of my house and the garden is measured in poles (square poles 5 1/2 yards by 5 1/2 yards).

Also my timber merchant sells 100mm x 50mm x 2400mm wood as 4 x 2 x 2.4 . ( No units, that would just make it too easy!)

Amazon to hire over 85,000 temporary elves for Christmas

Telboy

The Xmas workers are on full time (40 hrs per week) with compulsory overtime paid at flat rate. I spent one season working in the Swansea Warehouse, and boy they do make you sweat, the first week there it was approx -4 degrees outside yet everyone wears shorts because it is red hot inside. There is a single 30 min break for lunch in each 8 hour shift, nothing unusual in that except it takes ten minutes to get through the airport style metal detectors to the break area and another 5 to return to the work place. If you have ever seen the 1920's film metropolis where the workers are toiling relentlessly you will understand what Amazon is like.

Walking around all day with a scanner that tells you where to go and what to pick up- if the for any reason the orders stop coming in the device tells you to report to the team leader in order to be sent home. Generally the orders pick up again before you get dismissed and you can get on your merry way. All in all an evil place to work.

AVGAS in Choppers. Not a good idea

<quote>Choppers drink avgas the way a sailor drinks booze after a 6 month dry voyage. I'm thinking that the only thing that costs more per mile in fuel is the f</quote>

I very much doubt that any "Choppers" would be using AVGAS, very probably

using AVTUR or JetA1. This mistake is pretty much akin to putting petrol in a diesel car. Not a good idea.

Although I must add AVTUR works fine in a diesel engine especially if it is very cold.
