Oracle reveals secret recipe for free DIY storage cloud

FAIL

Not a Dropbox replacement... yet!

The major failing of this "solution" is that there is no mention of synchronisation. Anyone (world+dog) can build a webdav server and allow upload / download of files from an internal or external IP (or DynDNS address) using HTTP over pretty much any device. The flexability that you get with Dropbox (and alternatives) is that you choose which folders / files, in "your cloud", you wish to synchronise to what device(s).

Re: "Comfortable with the terminal"

Piro, just out of curiosity; did you manage to install Windows 8, 7 or Vista on the older machines (Pentium 4 3 2... etc etc)?

Citrix morphs from Windows app virtualizer to all app mobilizer

Lots of money...

Don't get me wrong, I love Citrix's products, when they are working!

However, maybe Citrix could chuck some of it towards their Support Desk, the support my company receives is getting worse by the day!

They also need to update all documentation, and training courses across their product range. While they are at that, they also need to train their SE's on all of their products with this new material. I can't remember the number of times we've had a "Citrix" SE turn up and not know the product inside-and-out.

I've had a feeling for a while now that Citrix was moving away from being a Technically lead company to a Commercially lead company, and after reading this article; I am more convinced... Not entirely a bad thing, but if you are producing "cutting edge" technology, you need to be able to support it from start to finish!

Couples.

I know at least 5 people who's relationship status is married; only they are "married" to their best friends of the same gender. I bet that there are many more of these "couples" out there. I can't wait to point this new feature out to them to see the look on their faces!

Stop

Match.com

I would ask anyone thinking of using match.com to use another service as they are a bunch of thieving *****! I cancelled my account and they automatically renewed it and took £30 for the pleasure. A stern talking with my credit card company and it was sorted - but that kind of underhanded business really pisses me off.

OCZ is not an upstart

OCZ have been around since 2002 producing high-grade RAM and have been making SSDs since 2008... how are they an upstart!?

It will be a revolutionary MP3 player...

With a battery that lasts longer than a day, comes with noise-canceling head-phones, cusomisable EQ and works no matter how you hold it or which pocket it's in... Oh no, wait - that would be every OTHER MP3 player available on the market today... nevermind!

Where is server virtualisation taking us?

A reason NOT to virtualise...

I really can't think of a reason why anyone would not virtualise their systems... Virtualisation is not even expensive... VMWare is expensive! Anyone can download any free hypervisor and get the same (if not better) performance than ESX/vSphere along with many of the enterprise-ready features like live-motion, centralised resource pool management, snapshots, template provisioning and virtual hard disk backup / porting to DR sites. Add those with saving on electricity bills, warranty costs and saving the planet... I feel that virtualisation should be first on everyone's list this christmas - and law!

How often...

What really scares me, is how often this kind of "administration error" happen? Even if it's a couple of pence on everyon'e bill - that would add up to ALOT of $$$ for the mobile provider. I think he needs to goto Trading Standards and get an investigation started...
