Well as well as Fighter Command defeating the Lufwaffe in 1940 , and so getting Hitler to call off the invasion of England, Bomber Command managed to kill over 600,000 Germans.
Quite a good effort by the RAF.

I was a Volunteer Ambulance Officer for eleven years in New Zealand.
Often what I and the others in the Service got, was abuse , insults and assaults .
Frequently the information received over the phone about the job was quite different to what I found at the scene.
Rarely did you get any thanks. I can remember the times I got thanked because they were so few.
Have a go at the sharp edge of the Ambulance work and you might not be quite so quick to condemn

Jerry remembers a machine from 25-30 years ago. Might be the one I saw at the Medical School at Auckland University , 30 years ago.
Constructed and used by an bloke who worked there, and used a .22 cal. rifle.
It was thought he must have taken several weeks to make it. Quite a good design, with a timer , and after taking some drugs to make him go bye-bye, he locked himself in to/ on to the device and the rest is history.
Opinion was that he wanted to be remembered, perhaps the same applies to this Australian chap.
Sad thought that suicide is a matter for hilarity among supposed adults.
PS. Jerry - Re Richard Pierce and the Wright Bros. Richard's plane had no means of control , the Wright machine had wing warping, and Richard's bouncing across a paddock and into a hedge was not controlled , sustained flight.
The Yanks did do it first.

In ww2, there was place in Italy called Monte Cassino, which needed blowing up .
In the resulting bombing , the British and Americans bombed the Monastery and the Germans bombed our side.
One NZ soldier I knew said the rule was- If British aircraft came over the Germans ducked , if the German aircraft came over the British and Americans ducked.
When the Americans came over EVERYBODY ducked.

I see from the comments above that some of you think these space heaters at Pubs are a good thing because they make it nicer for the children left outside while they get on with their drinking.
Cor , you poms need a lesson or two on caring for your children (poor little sods).
