Are you the keymaster? Alternatives in a LogMeIn/LastPass universe

Re: Compromised host tolerance?

I don't see how that could work, you need to access your password store, however many passwords you want out of it. Once you've typed that password into a compromised host you're toast, all your stored passwords are then available.

You can access KeePass on your phone and do a manual copy / paste onto the bad host. You're only risking one password then, I don't really see any other way.

Another question for the techies: SpiderOak's Android client (last time I looked) fails their zero knowledge bit because it doesn't do local [en|de]cryption. How does Encryptr manage this?

Vodafone loses access to punters' records in IT cock-up

Ho Fucking Ho

Why, instead of flogging femtocells, don't they just give you a VoIP client and run a gateway?

Since pretty well everyone with home broadband has wifi, it would seem to be a no-brainer. Those without wifi could be sold a wifi access point instead.

Oops - just realised the answer to my own question: dumb phones won't be able to run VoIP clients. Would still work for the new generation of smartphones though, surely?

Given that they need a bb connection to work, is it just me that finds it weird Vodafone don't just provide a VoIP gateway and a client for smartphones?

I know that wouldn't work for archaic mobiles, but they're nearly all Nokias and can probably get a signal anywhere anyway.

Nobody's mentioned Blackberry OS on Nokia?

What's not to like? Nokia's reputation for hardware (if it hasn't died already), BB's corporate integration and appeal to the kiddies (something only RIM and Apple seem to have managed to any degree).

Yes, really

I'd guess (and no, I'm not going to rtfa) that they said it sold faster than any of their previous *smartphone* models, which frankly wouldn't be too difficult now, would it?

And as for 'Know your Mobile', part of Dennis publishing who do about ten PC magazines, want to guess where most of their ad revenue comes from?

<quote>we know the business well and the fit with TalkTalk is perfect</quote>

Says it all, really. Two peas in a pod or, more realistically, two turds in a toilet. Pipex were great, I hoped Tiscali were going to burn for what they did to it.

And I wasn't going to feel even a hint of remorse for the Tiscali staff that got the chop when it went. They were the ones that were giving me the run around when I was trying to get my MAC to leave.

Have you tried calling microsoft support recently?

They're nice and friendly, provided you give them your cc number first.

You can call canonical with your cc number too, and get the same thing.

If you want it for free, ask for it nicely, and in this context that means trying to find out for yourself first.

I don't really think that's too much to ask.

And remember, you're not a customer, you're a user.

Customers get the friendly bit from Canonical / RedHat / Novell whoever. See note about *paying*, above.

Pipex wasn't a budget provider, until the parasites at ticsali got their feelers on them.

And does anybody care what ofcom think? Since they appear to have slightly less authority than ISPA? All bb contracts are carefully worded so that they can still bill you *even when you have no service* because your line is being unbundled. After all, 'no service' is just a point on a bandwidth graph.

Perhaps ofcom can explain why they haven't stopped that? No, thought not.

@ Luke

Some of us were with Pipex, and weren't aware they were a toy ISP.

Unfortunately, you're right: The only way to get Pipex type quality now is to go somewhere else. Something I wish I'd done when I first read (here) that ticali had bought them, would have saved me being without for four weeks while they found me a MAC code.
