Violent video games <coin flip> ARE linked to child aggression

To all the people who haven't knifed anyone

Here's a standard comment for an article on game violence linked to violent real life behaviour:

"I play plenty of violent games but I've never knifed anyone. My parents taught me how to differentiate between reality and fantasy."

That's good to hear, but it doesn't actually invalidate what this study has said. It didn't say it playing violent games made players attack other people physically or copy the _exact_ behaviour in the game. It said that repeated exposure to violent games makes players more aggressive. Aggression is not simply knifing people or shooting them or stealing cars, it can manifest in several ways - more swearing, shouting, being nasty with words, etc etc.

If you're going to try and refute something it is best to stick to the actual point made, is my point.

That's a very good point, she may have killed herself due to any rejection. But, it's quite possible that due to the extra life experience and emotional maturity of the accused, her powers of manipulation would be greater, making the force of the emotional blow that much greater.

Add to that, the girl would have less defence to begin with, and any defence would probably be lowered because she thought she was speaking to a boy. It would be like a kid protecting herself against an adult with a knife, who then twists it.

Transcripts of the conversations would give us more insight into the situation, and whether the prosecution is justified.

:( because it's a sad outcome, whatever happened.

Perl.com sends visitors to porn link farm

@BKB

Logic isn't your strong point, is it mate?

1. Perl.com is run by O'Reilly, not Larry Wall or Perl (whomever that is? Do you know C# personally as well?!)

2. Taint mode prevents a script writing to disk - nothing to do with 3rd party Javascript redirects.

3. This was a network problem, not a programming error. Heard of DNS and domain purchasing? The world wide web??

4. Perl hasn't got anyone's money, it's open source. It's not a bank, and why would a bank run 3rd party adverts? Should perl.com get you to log in to see the home page as well?? Perhaps all websites should all add in extra security because they're not banks too...

Hope that helps clear things up for you.
