ubuntu + unity = unmitigared clusterf***

I had been using ubuntu for many years. WIth the advent of unity and the POS 'netbook' desktop, I thought I was gonna hurl my lunch from the previous Xmas!

I currently run SuSE, flipping back and forth between Icewm and fvwm. I avoid kde like the plague (yeah, they even managed to screw that up with the stinking 'plasma' artiste renditions. ~bleaah!~

I use linux because it works out of the box and I dont have to fuss with 'uber-cool' colorizations. I guess artsy-fartsy is what you use when things are broke and you need a diversion.

I went back to SuSE and run mwm as my desktop. Much happier then having to put up with the screen-barf that is unity. I used to be a huge advocate of ubuntu. Now I advocate dumping it to the dustbin of OS'es ala Warp2.

Epic Fail!

Installed the alpha on a 64-bit Intel I3. Was promptly greeted by the screen vomit known as Unity.

I fdsk'ed the harddrive and installed Fedora. Congrats canonical for the technical yawn that will forever be known as ubuntu.

I run linux because of its clean lines and uncluttered appearance. I cant say that about ubuntu. Did you ever think that there is a REASON why the linux UI is the way it is? Not something to be bastarized and made to look like the fugly stepchild of OS X/OS 2/Windows 7.

The onslaught that is apple's 'contribution' to the music world. I think I will pass. MP3 is fine if I want to work out or plug in my own tunes while driving through the barren outback of the US Desert Southwest, but if I am at home, I will play my vinyl till the day I pass on from this world. I do have CDs, but with the exception of the CD player, everything is analog in terms of the amp and signal.

They buggered the pooch by disallowing the 'Root' account (now one must go in and finger-f*** the init files to enable a root login.

The prior linux/unix security mode worked perfect, until they started to futz with disallowing root login and forcing sudo. This, IMO is a much greater security hole than they had before. And many of my long-time linux/unix peers agree.

Trying to 'simplify' linux to appeal to mac-lusers and windows-whiners creates a set of problems which never existed before.

In other words

There are still a collection of idiots who should be given an Etch-a-sketch and told it is a computer and in order to erase a file, they simply hold it upside down and shake side-to-side (with apologies to Scott Adams).

Has been that you couldnt pay me money to own one. (Hand-)Jobs has down a marvelous job of not only dumbing down the hardware/OS, but making it difficult at best for people who need to do real work on their device.

I found the so-called 'filler' to be some of the best pieces compared to the top-40 pablum that started to take over the industry in the 70s. These were often longer, more artisitc pieces from a musical perspective and allowed the listener to learn more about the artist(s) talents/skills.

With the advent of the 'American Idol'-style of talent searches (please.. what a boatload of sh** THOSE performers turned out to be, with maybe a couple of exceptions), musicality and artistry went by the wayside for cheap-ass entertainment and made-up drama/hype.

It mosy be hard to be you and attempt to display any level of intelligence that doesnt include partidan politcal hackery.

The number of bad IT staffers who are not diverse in their chosen career path is a limiting factor. Oftentimes having knowledge of C/C++ has enabled me to try things with Perl/Java/Javascript that most others wouldnt even think of. Knowledge of a Good OS (Unix) has allowed me to understand the failures/workarounds of others (MS/BeOS/OS-2).

Sadly, since things have moved to a 'mobile' world (iOS/Android/web-based tools), there is a belief that there is no longer a need for high-level languages/OSes. WRONG! I call this the 'University of Phoenix' approach to education: Teach the 'Hot' tool and get them edumahcated.

Epic FAIL becuase students have become as lazy as the so-called institutions that are teaching them.

...LP/Open-Reel/Cassette tapes when you can pry my cold, dead hands from them. I have 50 year old Big Band/Jazz/Symphonic along with newer Jazz/Rock/Blues/Alternative music recordings that beat the living HELL out of 99.5% of any thing recorded today (Rhianna? Who the heck IS this person and who decided SHE has talent. Not like Ella or Aretha!).

The only sound massaging I have performed is converting my old tapes and loaded them onto a CD. Other than that, the older mediums are still a huge improvement over what is available from the iTunes store. I have an MP3 player, but it is used only when I go to the gym and I decide to drown out crummy covers by the likes of Taylor Dane/Hansen Brothers/Nellie.
