Amazon's AWS opens data center in Germany – just as we said

Suuure

"Opening the data centre, Amazon stressed data privacy, saying customers’ content can now fall entirely under the umbrella of European Union data protection laws and outside the reach of United States regulations like the Patriot Act."

See how well this holds up since Amazon is an American company required by law to cooperate with the patriot act -_-

We've already got the case going on where the gov.us have demanded Microsoft to give access to data stored in Ireland since under the United State's eyes, the American arm of the company has access to the data regardless of where the data is and the laws protecting it

The future of storage: disk-based or just discombobulated?

3.5" drives

i know this would present a problem with replacement drives but why dont they increase the phyisical size of the hard drives from say 3.5" to the 5.25" so that more platters can be installed and let us reach higher TB capacity per drive.

Asking cause im curious

All they need is an HV Drups on the incoming supply XD would easily handle both the hpc load and the cooling load if the power failed XD these beasts kick in to diesel backed geni in no time XD and they keep the incoming supply clean and its a no load break

Just done a job recently for both hpc and its associated storage

Don't suppose no one thought to put a label on the cable saying "does not contain copper" XD

Well assuming they bother to read it anyway

you get a better deal with a vpn then with movie companies

for exemple for £15 for 3months access to a vpn i can download whatever i want and as much as my isp/HDD can take. for £15 to the media companys i can either buy a single dvd/blueray (depending on price) and sit through the anti pricy ads or stream a few hours from lovefilm online.

but im guess you don't care any of the above since your pro copyright & anon

UK.gov denies innocent will be hit by filesharing regime

Armitage
Grenade

First post yay, not

so within 12months the amount of piracy detected will drop below 70% and the gov will call this a victory anyway since the majority of fileshares will just switch to vpn tunnels and other means of avoiding detection.

When will they learn, producing crap doesn't equal a quick buck

@Low Volts ---> High Amps?

yea when the voltage is dropped the current (amps) in the circuit increases, most modern equipment is happy to run on reduced voltages for a short time in my experiance, the problem tho is if your pulling bigger amps through a circuit you risk tripping the circuit's protective device (fuse or mcb) which in a home would only knock off a few things.

However it runs a risk of taking out a portion of the final grid since all the transformers are protected by fuses on the supply side

although im speculating on the grid since i dont know for sure>_<

since it appears they passed it, just who on earth are they gonna enforce it

start raiding everyones houses on new years day and remove all their hard drives and media?

As far as im awear (please correct if im wrong) they need reasonable suspetion (hence phorm supplied evidence) to obtain a warrant and enter someone's house to seize the computer equipment. They cant just go knocking on everyone's door asking to see your porn stash

unenforceable imho on its own but something they can add to the terror charge and refusal to submit an encryption key

time to burn/encrypt ur stash

Tor?

im a little rusty on the subject but does Tor encrypt from the browser (firefox) all the way to the exit node so in theroy all the isp would see is encrypted data?

Pirate

Isp's

although their are some very savvy ways to get around this, using proxys and encryption (to some extent it would help) even if the record company/isp did manage to track the ip to a user and disconnect him on the 3rd warning wouldnt he just be able to go to another service supplier, sign up to them and start downloading again untill he becomes traced agian by another Riaa agent

Would also point out at least they give you a warning letter first, its about the only good thing since u can appeal the desision if the record companys thought their profits were a little low that month and just submitted a list of random ip's and times to the isp for cival proceadings

the flag cause were all pirates at heart

Stop

@Mc Fines

"Since when has McDonalds agent had the right to request PRIVATE information handed to the government to enforce their McFines?"

Unfortuntley for your argument everyone has the right to request data from the dvla although a fee is normally paid for the service. Its best used when your checking the details on a future purchase and wanna check the information held by them on their database or if you've been hit by a driver who hasnt stopped and you've manged to take his plate down (always handy if he's a tw4t and you wanna teach him a lesson

back on topic, nothings gonna change regardles of what new laws are brought in since the senior managment will just find a way to wiggle of the hook and force somebody else to take the blame
