Apple emasculates the iPhone

John Munyard

Rotton Apple

Hell I was about ready to get really upset about this whole iPhone thing, and then I realised... I don't have an iPhone, and since I don't plan to get one I realised I don't actually care !

So - a smile and a wave to all you suckers who've already bought one simply because you swallowed Apple's hype and think it's cool. In fact I don't know why you got an iPhone anyway - it's not like any of you have any friends to call now do ya geek-boys? LOL

Brown calls for e-petitions to get debated in Parliament

ePetitions debated

That's good news. Can we please start with a proper debate on the anti-road tracking petition then please? Only 1.8m people signed that one.

Europe's banks must inform customers of US snooping

John Munyard

Reciprocity

The thing that troubles me about this whole thing is that the US was unwilling to offer reciprocity of it's own data.

Surely if the key reason for wanting this information was for the prevention of terrorism, then Europe deserves equal access to US transactions to do it's own data mining.

Instead what we are left with as a result of the wekaness of SWIFT and the European courts, is a data "land grab" by the Americans with little or no actual evidence of need and no reciprocity in data provision. Given the historical use of similar information in the past, who is to say that the CIA/NSA may use this information to advance US commercial interests instead?

Somehow I find it hard to believe that Osama Bin Laden pays for his weapons via Paypal...

Hypocritical?

Why is it utterly unacceptable for this girl to blurt out an offensive word at 3:30am in the morning on an edited feed, and yet acceptable for Channel4 to broadcast the incident in thier highlights programme tonight and make a "big thing of it" ?

Anyone?

eBay, PayPal face court action

John Munyard

Really a monopoly?

Using eBay is not compulsory. If everything is so crap and monopolised then why doesn't someone set up an alternative auction system?

It seems to me some people out there are purely interested in trying to get rich quick by filing punitive lawsuits.

Absolutely ridiculous...

Swiss turn Titanic into timepieces

Tasteless

Further proof (if any were needed) that there is no human dignity left in the world when there's a buck to be made.

Perhaps instead of making 2,012 watches to commerorate 100 years since the tragedy, they should make 1,517 to commemorate the number of people who died so they could turn it into a marketing campaign...

UK PS3 price begins to drop

John Munyard

Re : We pay too much whine whine whine

I understand where you're coming from but frankly the international market just doesn't work like that anymore.

The bottom line is that the PS3 is simply overpriced in EMEA.

It actually doesn't really matter that much that Sony have been caught trying to supply a lower-spec machine to a (legally trapped) captive EMEA market, at a price which is higher than other parts of the world.

The bottom line is that it's too expensive right now, and that's why there are stacks of them sitting on the shelves in UK retailers. Sony are getting two lessons right now; one in the economies of the world market, and the other a lesson in not taking the piss out of your customer base.

John Munyard

Still over-rated & overpriced

Nah... it's still waaaay to expensive. Remember the PS3 is the equivalent of £260 in native Japan.

I can hold out until the price drops to that level easy, even if it takes a year. Motorstorm is the only killer game anyway...

A number of the local retailers I've been in in the past week have even taken the PS3 off thier prime displat shelves. Guess they're not selling too many either...

Sony PlayStation 3

Re: Rent before you buy

I'm guessing the second time you weren't playing it in High Definition.

As Sony chose to omit an HDMI lead from the PS3 box (another £40) I'm guessing a lot of peeps who bought the PS3 box are already pissed that they can't hook up with HDTV without coughing up all over again.

Frankly, Sony couldn't have cocked this release up any more if they'd gotton Ken Livingstone involved in it.

John Munyard

Fed up with them

I disagree. I think that for once even the "early adopters" so ruthlessly targeted by Sony's pricing strategy in the UK have decided that the mickey has been taken once too often.

I mean... at £430 I'm not considering whether to buy a PS3 vs an x-box. At that price I'm wondering whether to buy one of those NVidia 8800GTX "monster" graphics cards for my PC instead, and look forward to pretty much the same games at half the price as well.

The Blueray drive should have been offered as an upgrade. Personally I have no need for a HiDef DVD player at all. As a result the whole box is massively over-specified and burdened with manufacturing costs it can't sustain for a few years yet.

Personally I just wanted a next-Gen games machine. I didn't need all the DVD/Media centre crap that comes with it. I can't believe that wasn't apparent to Sony from thier market research.

John Munyard

PS3 Slump already?

I think Sony have dropped a complete clanger with the pricing of the PS3. I've tried it (and it's excellent) but to me it just doesn't *feel* like it's worth £430 more to upgrade from my PS2. It could be the revelation that Sony are selling them for £260 in Japan that did it.

Anyway I was in Asda today and they have still stacks of PS3's in stock. It didn't look to me like too many people were leaping at the opportunity to buy one either.

You're move, Sony. About £200 off the RRP should do it.
