Buffy to slay her way back into cinemas

Christy A
Thumb Down

No, the fans are NOT awaiting this.

BOO. No. Stop, right now. This does NOT need a reboot, reimagining, revival, or any other thing that they call an old idea when they can't be bothered to think up their own.

If they want me to go to see Buffy at the cinema, it had better be Sarah Michelle Gellar. This applies until she's either A) Deceased or B) Way too old for it. Neither of these are the case, so they can just forget it.

Virgin Media to dump neutrality and target BitTorrent users

Christy A

Oh, sod OFF, Virgin Media.

They think they're going to throttle my bittorrent downloads, do they? Firstly: good luck with that. SSL is my friend, and if that isn't enough, well there's always someone smarter and more angry than me to come up with a way to hide the bittorrent traffic.

Secondly: throttle? From what to what? Considering that my downloads never reach what is supposed to be full speed, will it really make that much difference anyway?

In conclusion: Virgin Media may proceed directly to hell. I'll download what I want, when I want. They sold me the connection to use as I see fit, not as they do. If I see them getting in the way, I'll get around it.

BNP leaked list claims first victims

Alert

Double standards going on here...

If someone signs a contract stating that they are not / will not be a member of a political party or group, legal or not, and are found to be a member of that party then they should be subject to disciplinary action. After all, they agreed when they signed the contract for that job.

However, what really bothers me about this is the difference in the way people approach this leak to some others. Names and addresses of one group of people leaked = massive scandal, huge privacy issues, oh-my-god-how-could-this-happen. Names and addresses of another group of people leaked = serves them right for having opinions I don't agree with. Doesn't sound right somehow. Even the BBC were taking this line on Radio 4 this morning. People's home addresses, phone numbers, information about their CHILDREN for god's sake, is all being made available online for any nutcase to get hold of, and this is supposed to be OK because it's people who joined a particular LEGAL political party?

BT starts threatening music downloaders with internet cut-off

Christy A
Thumb Down

Oh, please.

The more they whine and quote their "The BPI require..." rubbish, the more I want to go right back to downloading all my music from P2P.

The BPI require? Well, I require a pony and a million quid, but I'm not getting that, am I? They may therefore sod right off.

Honestly, all this will increase file sharing, not reduce it. The way I found out about filesharing in the first place was because they made such a fuss about shutting down Napster back in Ye Dayes of Yore.

Big TV flips ad blockers the bird

Take ads? Er, no.

I don't see anything other than text ads. Not on TV, not online. Sky+ ensures I don't have to sit through a barrage of volume-increased rubbish just to see the latest episode of Chuck. Adblock ensures that ridiculous cartoon characters don't come screeching across my screen when I'm trying to wander around the internet.

Why on earth would I allow ads onto my screen? They're ugly, I dislike them. I can get rid of them, therefore I will. If a site goes under through lack of revenue - well, I wouldn't want the site anyway if it has to be covered in ads, so fine, I'll find another site. Google's ads usually make it through and are text-only so I don't mind them enough to work out how to block them. But if it moves, makes a noise, or forces me to wait a set period of time before I can get what I want, I will kill it or find what I want elsewhere.

Alternative options would have more luck

If they want to stop people downloading illegally, they need to offer real alternatives.

I don't want a CD. I will not buy a CD. I don't have a CD player, I have mp3 players. A CD is of use to me for precisely the amount of time it takes to rip the mp3s. Why would I want piles of CDs cluttering up my home? Offer the mp3s for sale legally, at a decent price, and I will buy them. Offer nothing but CDs and I will find another way to get what I want.

Similar for TV shows. I am not going to wait until UK broadcast, by which time some muppet from the US will have told me who is a Cylon, who dies, etc. Offer me a way to buy the episodes of my favourite shows, legally and at a decent price (not twice what they pay in the US - I'm looking at you, iTunes) and I'll pay it. But I'm not going to wait months for shows just for the warm fuzzy feeling of being a good girl. Again - I will find another way.

They need to make it easier to get things legally than to get them illegally. The trouble is, they're going in the wrong direction, trying to restrict downloading - when if they'd just offer alternatives half the battle would be won.

BBC iPlayer continues platform sluttiness with Virgin Media launch

Stop

Red button? Riiiight...

Content to be delivered via the red button? You mean the "please crash my box entirely and force me to unplug the thing from the wall in order to reset it" button?

I can't see this going well. Virgin Media customers have been quite effectively trained NOT to venture anywhere near the red button, and for good reason. I've never seen it work once.

Harry Potter and the Virus of Doom

Christy A

Spoilers? Oh, please.

Congrats, you managed to introduce spoilers into an otherwise spoiler-free article.

Really, anyone who hasn't read Deathly Hallows yet and is dim enough to click on anything labelled "Harry Potter" is going to get spoiled sooner or later, and I can't bring myself to feel sorry for them. The book has been out nearly a month.

Catherine Tate to accompany Doctor Who

Christy A

For god's sake, NO. I'm not watching that bloody woman.

Well, looks like I'm switching off after the Christmas special then. I was willing to put up with Kylie as it's Christmas and they're allowed to be a bit camp at Christmas. But last year's The Runaway Bride was a train wreck - largely because of Tate's shrill, untalented, unattractive, annoying presence. Of all the episodes it's the one I can't stand to watch again. I tried to get my parents into New Who that Christmas and was embarrassed to have asked them to watch such shite.

No way. I'm not watching her for thirteen episodes. I'd rather turn off - which is what I'll do as soon as she appears on screen. That is, unless she's in the process of dying a horrible, messy, permanent, no-reset-button death!

BA upgrades corpse

Christy A

Badly handled by BA

Even supposing we accept that BA had no choice but to move the body to First class, they dealt with this extremely badly. This man paid over £3000 for a ticket that should have allowed him to fly in comfort and was expected to fly with a corpse. He should have been offered a refund on his current journey and an additional free flight, at the very least.
