Ex-Microsoft man plans brand of consumer marijuana 'fine cigars'

Blueberry Skunk of Derp?

Microsoft "Tokin' Ring Networking" schmoozathons?

For MS's MS patients... I wonder will this enabling technology be supplied with the OS? Give you something to do during installation and patching.

Overall I'm glad someone a little less evil (compared to monsanto, arms corporations, big pharma etc) is grabbing this. It was never going to be some dippy hippy utokia, but as long as people have the option to homegrow, then there's no harm in having a corporate option. People can weigh up the pros and cons themselves.

I fully expect old beardy Branson to follow suit, too, given his public support.

"...But will it stop there?"

I realise that line was probably rhetorical, but with the analogy of Newton's first law in mind, has the answer to that question regarding such measures, be they realted to dead tree, broadcast signal or packet switched data, ever been yes?

Stand by for PURPLE KETCHUP as boffins breed SUPER TOMATOES

Healthy food good, profiteering bad.

I've no problem with these tomatoes, or GM that works as advertised. But there's always a but.

My problem is with the corporate ownership of the genes, with all the greed that goes with that. Megacorporations e.g. Monsanto can cover up adverse studies and dampen down the media coverage of opposition by threatening to pull advertising. Look at the rise of peasant farmer suicides, the corporate opposition to the labelling of GM food, underhand tactics used to bully farmers in the USA, massive political bribes, the list goes on.

Free (as in software) selectively bred crop varieties will do just fine, thankyouverymuch. If they are grown without paying protection money (purchasing chemicals) then so much the better.

So... Meter rental for the new supplier you say. People will be screwed whether they move supplier or not.

1. All suppliers charge each other high meter rental.

2. All suppliers pass on that charge to their newly acquired customers.

3. All suppliers hike charges to existing customers (including dumb meter users) because they will be shafted even more by 1 + 2 if they move.

Re: Wow, screw Google

"It is unfair (And probably very illegal) for a Private company to make a profit when the public paid for almost all of it." What rock have you been living under for the past few decades?

As stated in the article, the whole sorry business was conceived as a public-private partnership, much like a lot of stuff in the UK. That means that the private companies buy up the local/state/national government puppets in charge, who then sell the idea (of handing control over to the private profit making sector) to the proletariat by promising a loving reach-around (hospital ward, school building, whatever).

It is later on, when bent over grabbing their ankles and hemorrhaging copious blood/funds, that people begin to realise that they are being rampantly fucked and that they should have kept control of the situation all along. Too late! Contracts signed, government balance sheet turds polished, politricksters long gone, private sector trollolololing all the way to the tax haven, next generation drowning in public debt, shit creek rapids approaching, paddle AWOL.

Two examples of films I bought: Ink, indie fantasy, on signed Blu-Ray even though it had been released by the makers as a torrent. I'm currently having fantastic success on a free site, they're really pretty girls and they message me first, which is kind of nice. All seem to be travelling or working around Africa, which is an odd coincidence, but stranger things have happened.

Seriously though, it was in an IRC based free chat site (initially with a horrific java front end*) that I met my current lovely lady. I was a regular chatter, not looking for anything more than timewasting on the net, then when she joined up we noticed each other's twisted humour. I messaged her, apparently. It's not something I'd normally do, but a hearty imbibement of ale that night doubtless had something to do with it, hence the icon.

My point is love happens just as easily when you're not even looking for it. She'd had nothing but fail with the dating-oriented sites. I fancied her before I even saw a pic, and yes it was a bloody big relief when I saw that she's quite pretty. I even have a pic of her bum as the wallpaper on my phone with pattern unlocking: I have to fondle it right to gain access!

Developers coded the simpler and quicker PS versions first, then porting to the Saturn some time later or never at all (sometimes a fat wad of Sony readies aided the decision making), with the product quality suffering along the way.

I'm actually with the owner on this one. His restaurant, he is SysGod. Not SysAdmin. SysGod. As in way back before my cyber existence in the dialup BBS age. When the SysGod could be a bastard and introduce noise to the line wasting someone's valuable line time, for example.

Service charge? OK it's serve yourself, and probably boil-in-bag stuff, so yeah that's a piss-take. Tap water? I still hurt from having to pay £5 for a mineral water at my middle class cousin's leaving do in a London Bar! Stop taking the piss and we'll start buying. (I do not know the charges for the restaurant in question)

At the end of the day one single restaurant is not as essential to life as your internet connection, gas/water/electricity/sewerage. Learn to cook like I did, it is very rewarding.

It's alright for me. I have Noscript and AdBlockPlus but FB is of course enabled in Noscript, and I don't need Javascript to hop on my bike to a warehouse open day of my favoured ethical clothing brand. Now if only flash wasn't such a bloated waster these days.

I can't deny that not catering for Java-disabled users used to be a bugbear of mine. If the site is trusted then it is probably already enabled, but random crap cropping up on FB etc gets no such privelige. LOLcats and news reports need no such tomfoolery.

PS I recommend Lazarus form recovery, with the two mentioned above that's my vital 3 addons.

USB charges up to 100 watts

Suburban Inmate

Re: I hope they up the voltage

I managed to lose a monitor PSU and got a bargain on a second monitor, so I run them off the internal PSU no problem. The cables are fairly thin, but 100w constantly at for example 12v would need a pretty decent cable so as not to get too warm if coiled away somewhere underneath dust/rug/cat. That rules PoundLand out. Upping the voltage beyond 12V would involve faffing around with PSU standards, a serious obstacle.
