Microsoft WINDOWS 10: Seven ATE Nine. Or Eight did really

M$ just can't let go of Metro can it.

Boy MS just can't let go of the fact that people see tiles as a complete waste of space. That and the enterprise doesn't want live tiles nor does it want the "Store" option anywhere near employee's in any way shape or form. On a desktop tiles just get in the way. On a tablet yeah sure maybe tiles are ok and on a phone sure but not on a desktop.

Windows 7 and it's start menu still looks better than Windows 10.

Also has anyone noticed that 802.1x authentication doesn't seem to work right in Windows 10? I'm just not getting it to work correctly with user authentication.

Windows 10: One for the suits, right Microsoft? Or so one THOUGHT

Tiles in the start menu? Can we get an option to do away with that horseshit? Live tiles introduce needless drag on everything. I need an option that will turn all the tile crap off and take it back down to what a start menu should be.

Moon base first

I would think that it would be much easier to launch from the moon wouldn't it? Send and or build modules on the moon, (hey make use of the He3 there too) then send them off to Mars. You could build a much larger better supported system at a moon base. Hell we really should just make use of the moon for resources anyway and what better way than to further the human plague by going to the moon and then to Mars?

CONFIRMED: Sophos shifting threat response work to India

William Hinshaw

When they say that there will be no reduction in employees what they mean is that in one year they are going to close the offices in the UK and "offer" equivalent jobs in India. That is what is going to happen. This is exactly what is done for every single merger when they state there will be no office closings or reduction in staff. Then they will "remove redundancies" then shifting work to other offices then closing offices and offering a few select people (required people) great moving options and the rest are just left to find new jobs.

NSA alleges 'BIOS plot to destroy PCs'

William Hinshaw

There is no need to worry about the NSA

Just do everything they say, support them in everything they do and you shouldn't run into any problems so long as you just keep your head down, work and give everything to the government. Remember they are there to protect you and help you. They are only interested in your ability to serve them. Remember and OBEY!!! Is that so hard?

OCZ balances books, files results following 4-year omnishambles

They have done a great job so far

The management team at OZC has done a great job so far pulling the company out of the nose dive and have so far prevented it from hitting the ground like a meteor. It will take another few years for them to really be competitive again, but that is what we need, instead of consolidation of SSD makers. The more SSD makers consolidate and the more the SSD market becomes like the HD market of Seagate vs WD and the lackluster achievements in price/performance. The new management seems to have real integrity and that is something that the old management clearly didn't understand the meaning of let alone be able to spell it.

LOL yet another big FU from MS

Sorry but it is Metro 1.1. This isn't the start menu of old for the PC. Metro works fine on a table or a phone but it is a pain in the ass for me on the PC. While I will have to continue using Classic Shell to have my start button and menus the way I like MS will continue to fail in the Enterprise market with this crap.

Really just putting the button in and making it take you back to the Metro UI is just a big Fuck You to the customer.

Still the Spy Box for the NSA and pervs

Well you still have to run the NSA spy cam and mic. With no way to run the Spy Box without the Kinect plugged in and no way to be sure it is turned off you know that the NSA will be viewing and pervs will be recording and it will probably be NSA pervs doing the recording.

MS is still a hard fail to me. I don't want any information of any kind being fed back to MS for any fucking reason. I don't care if it is "To tailor your experience based on your profile" I don't want any fucking adds of any kind. I don't want any of my information being collected by MS as they have proven time and a again that they can't keep their shit secured. They can't keep their data secured (look at their cloud fiascoes) .

MS can just take the Spy Box as it is now and cram it WAY up. I'll get a Wii U and a PS4 and the cash that was going to a XBox will instead go to a Titan card for my PC.

And Metro would still make it horse shit anyways.

Microsoft announces $499 price tag, new games for Xbox One

The Spy Box

It should be just called the Spy Box. I'm not paying for a box designed specifically to put a camera and microphone into my living room that is connected to the Internet 24/7 (requiring it connect every 24 hours is basically 24/7 unless the kid takes it to a friends in the country).

Microsoft was the first to get on board with the NSA spy program. Yeah so you can damn well bet that the NSA is going to be getting into every Spy Box it can. OH and what about hackers? I bet that in a month or less there will be plenty of videos and pictures posted on the Internet of all kinds of people caught on camera. Really M$ can't make anything secure and given that they have back doors put into their stuff under contract with the NSA probably you can bet that hackers will get in. You know they want this as it is REQUIRED that the Kineckt be hooked up for the thing to even run. Talk about fail fail fail.

The more I find out about the Spy Box the more I just hate M$ for doing the crap it does.

I hope that all of management that was part of making this the "in home spy machine" burn in hell.

GOOD going M$ you are going to kill the XBOX line with this crap.

YES, Xbox One DOES need internet, DOES restrict game trading

William Hinshaw
Mushroom

buhbye M$

The reasons I can't purchase the new XBOX.

1. It spies on you 24/7 with camera and mic.

2. Basically requires an always on Internet connection to feed data to the NSA, M$ marketing and sales as well as the highest bidder. You can damn well bet they will sell it just like GOOGLE does.

3. M$ can't ever make something secure. I give it a month tops before some hacker is spying on some MILF and posting it on 4Chan. Or god forbid some fat old man.

4. Now I have to ask for M$'s permission to give a game away let along sell it.

Any one of these items is a deal breaker, but if the games are good enough MAYBE give it a go, but all of these (and I'm sure there are more issues) is just too much to take. I'll stick with the 360 and just skip the XBOX 1, I was planning on getting it and the PS4 but meh just the PS4 and more games I guess for that system. I wasn't planning on getting the WII U but I might as well now as there is no way in hell I'll get and XBOX One till I can run it without the Kinect plugged in, with the ability to filter the data that M$ receives and the ability to give the games that I PURCHASED away to friends and family as I FUCKING see fit without their knowledge or fucking permission.

FYI they can also take that METRO ui and shove it up their ass so far that they choke on it.

I wanted to be polite about this but I just couldn't. I had high hopes for the new XBOX but it comes with so much of the worst aspects of technology that it just angers me in the extreme and knowing there are so many sheeple that will simply get it cause they don't understand just serves to make me madder still. Till the XBOX 1.1 comes out I just will not get it and I will tell everyone I know just how invasive it is and I'll be doubly sure that all the mothers out there know that hackers will be spying on them and their children hoping to get some nude footage of them to post for all to see and fap too.

I think it is great

It is still possible to turn the ship around. He so far is doing everything required and then some. I don't believe that OZC has lost all customer confidence and that is going to be one of the required parts to resuscitating OZC.

So far what he has done is chop out bad culture. Much of a corporations culture problems stems from bad management at the top and it just gets pushed on down throughout a company. By making it clear that things have to change and whacking all the upper management it clears the way for aggressive culture change and presents the clear message that they will do anything to compete and succeed.

That kind of message and real action will see them through this. They have brought in top notch fiscal talent and management with a decent track record. There could always be improvements there but given the budget he probably has I think he min/maxed the best that he can.

Win 8 is crash and burn even worse that MS Bob

So far I feel like I'm wrestling with a greased hog. There is just no getting it to work the way I want without installing some 3rd party shell. That and the fact that there seems to be trouble hooking Windows 8 systems in to AD where I work and it is definitely a no go. I have it installed on a laptop and have had a few people try to work it and they just give me a confused look on how to do some basic things like where is the start button or how do I shut it down, there are so many things that just don't work the way they used to that are too many to list here but are basic functions. SO far I'm very irritated with the released product. I had hoped that changes would have been made to at least give you the option to flip to the old interface but it isn't going to be an option and that right there is going to kill it deader than dead here.

Canonical bungs kill switch onto Ubuntu's Amazon 'adware'

William Hinshaw

Re: To whom, exactly?

You clearly fail to understand that not only is he selling user data to Amazon but sending it unencrypted for everyone under the sun to slurp up. The data isn't anonymized in anyway for all we know. Don't you get it? Making money off of our personal info is to me an invasion of privacy that we as a nation should seize back from the people that stole it from us. All the big time companies with billions to bribe our congress and President need to see that they can't use us in that kind of way.

But while Google, MS, Amazon, Apple, Oracle, ect keep doing more to erode our privacy remember privacy was at one time part of our constitution. But everyone seems so eager to throw it a way because they don't understand its importance.

Bah ignorant people that insist on staying ignorant can't see that and never will. Do you see the irony here Mr. Anonymous Coward?

Windows 8: Microsoft's tablet-desktop still painful to swallow

William Hinshaw

Still isn't making it easy

The point here is that it is such a fundamental change to the interface. Most people working in the Enterprise simply don't understand how to use computers. They in some cases don't even know how to turn them on or the difference between the monitor and the computer. Many call the monitor the computer. They are shown how to get into their software and that's it. To move to this is going to be too much to ask of many of these people who barely function as it is. You just can't go in and tell a director or a VP that they are so ignorant about computers that their five year old grandson knows how to operate computers way better than they do and that they need some remedial training to come up to speed. It just isn't done if you want to keep your job.

Microsoft Azure goes titsup across Western Europe

Another clear demostration of why we can't "go to the cloud"

Can you imagine 4000+ people not being able to do the majority of their work because the "cloud" was down for two hours? The cloud is basically a "MAINFRAME" people and shouldn't ever be down except on a weekend for planned maintenance once in a blue moon at most. Two hours of unscheduled down time simply is NEVER acceptable for an enterprise. Two hours for some businesses is millions of dollars lost. If M$ wants to make a serious play for the enterprise or businesses of any size for that matter they need 100% reliability and if any down time is required EVER (and should ever be needed for the a Cloud Mainframe) there should be at least a month lead time and on a weekend that has a holiday like New Years to assure minimal impact on businesses.

If Azure could be made as reliable as the Mainframe days of old M$ could rake in the CASH big time and unshackle its self from depending on the success of Windows cause I think everyone can see that Windows 8 isn't going to be accepted by the enterprise masses with open arms.

Gabe Newell: Windows 8 is a 'catastrophe' for PC biz

William Hinshaw

Touch this M$!

Touch tech has been around a very long time. More than 30 years now. It still hasn't taken off on the PC. It is convenient on a tablet as it makes it much more portable to go without a keyboard. However on a PC with applications that are designed for keyboard and mouse touch doesn't make sense for that reason by it's self let alone the fact that I don't happen to have my monitors with in arms reach. It just doesn't work well for me to have them closer and do my work. The same can be said for most office workers.

Touch is just isn't for regular desktops or big screen use. They would be better off going for the Minority Report interface complete with holographic projection.

It isn't that I don't like change. I don't like work being made worse than it is and more cumbersome. That is what Metro (aka Bob 2) does. It makes things just more cumbersome for a desk jockey. Sure if I'm running all over traveling the world it would work great for my tablet. But not for the desktop.

Those are the real functional gripes either of which is a killer for the enterprise. But to add the "Playskool" effect of giant "friendly" tiles and requiring to swipe through panels of crap and have things automatically take the full screen and well nothing new to add to what has already been stated. It just is terrible for the enterprise. Till the mouse and keyboard are outlawed the touch tech will not take off for the desktop.

Off the Cliff

Yeah MS is riding this thing right off of a cliff. If I had any stock in MS I would be selling it off and purchasing Apple stock. I hate Apple in the extreme. The point is that this is WILLFUL stupidity on Microsoft's part. Skipping an enterprise cycle thinking they will avoid another Vista like debacle is wrong. The enterprise will never accept the Bob 2 interface or any refinements of it though Start8 is a much better take on the interface.

But I'm betting that the general end user will not like Bob 2 either. MS seems to believe that everyone must be treated like children telling us what we will like and must use. Making sure that we get a PLAYSKOOL interface with bright colors. I know that any computer I have to service that has Windows 8 will have a nice $40 surcharge added to it and I'll give it the line item "Dealing with Microsoft's willful stupidity. "

Can Windows 8 bag Microsoft 20 more years at the top?

William Hinshaw

Till there is the ability to roll out Windows 8 with Bob 2 turned off and locked down with no ability to activate it all via GPO it will not make any headway in the Enterprise arena. If there was a little animation that showed the Bob 2 interface (Metro) being burned away revealing a "Classic" fully functional interface then I would be all for it. Windows 8 has some great things under the hood but that crappy Bob 2 interface gets in the way and is just in general crap.

Nokia on 'brink of failure', warns analyst

William Hinshaw

MS Bob 2 on the phone

The M$ devs are just entitled, hippster, mac wannabies that think Bob 2 is going to be the greatest thing ever for everything. I suppose it is OK on the phone but nothing that is going to save Nokia from certain doom. As much as they want to believe otherwise the writing on the wall was put there long ago by Nokia themselves from back in the heyday when they were the best. Nokia could conceivably saved themselves if way back and had jumped on board with Android when it first got rolling and really pushed the envelope with it to avert disaster. But they didn't and now they will pay. M$ will as well.

It is so focused on trying to be something like Apple that they forget that coming up with something truly new and innovative is what will take them past Apple. Bob 2 is not new and nonnative. It is just a twist on the iOS.

For either to make it they have to take bold radical steps that take tech in a new direction. Following Apple with something that is "a little different" isn't working.

Star Trek tractor beam to save Earth from asteroid Armageddon

William Hinshaw

If detected early on then attaching a solar sail to it would be the cheapest more effective option. If time is a factor then the rail-gun approach. The most cost effective way would be to watch the skies and take action the absolute soonest possible. Just the smallest nudge early on can avert catastrophe years later.

William Hinshaw

Put a huge solar parachute or sail on the damn thing. Put it on a hella huge tether placed there with long cables and let the solar wind blow it off course. Then if you have the capability to steer it just put it out of danger at least and hey even send it to the moon to crash there or some place else that would be "safe". At least something like that should prove to be easier to achieve, cheaper and more effective than nukes or a gravity tractor.

'Doctor Dark Energy': The Ultimate LHC eccentric?

William Hinshaw

Hows this for a crazy idea I have

Consider this theory. That there is no matter, it is all energy. Matter as we perceive it on at the smallest point is really energy in going in a loop or sphere shape or force cage for the lack of a better term. What makes this possible hasn’t been discovered yet except that it is possible to break this loop or cage causing a release of an immense amount of energy. For example in a fission reaction when high energy neutrons collide with a large fragile atom like plutonium there split results in the loss of mass. That mass that is loss is from a subatomic particle that has had its energy loop or force cage broken allowing it to unravel so to speak. The idea reduces all of the cosmos down to energy being present or not present. The question that should be asked is if matter is in fact energy structured around a loop or a force cage is it possible for all matter loops and cages to be broken down and released in a cataclysmic explosion. Then what if it is that the smaller the loop or cage is the more powerful the forces unleashed? If so, is it possible that the energy released would be powerful enough that when striking another small loop or cage cause a cascade effect that could see the complete break down of all matter into energy in an uncontrolled reaction destroying the universe as we know it and leaving behind only one large wave of energy?
