Venezuela spits out Coke Zero

Coke Zero and Venezuela?

With a name that suggests "the original/predecessor coke" and the general location, my first impression was that the article was more about a certain stimulating powder, rather than a stimulating drink.

Swedish web traffic tumbles as IPRED arrives

Which is it?

Compare "Swedish *web* traffic tumbles as IPRED arrives" with "*Internet* usage in Sweden took a dramatic 30 per cent dip". Which is it? Web or Internet?

(hint: those are not the same!)

Internet != WWW

"The only good thing about the E is the title. That was well worth Microsoft paying those millions for. Ask an internet virgin to connect to the internet and when they see "Internet Explorer" vs "Firefox Web browser" which are they going to pick?"

Neither will connect you to the Internet. The former will however give you the wrong impression that "The Internet" is the same as "The World Wide Web".

Source code?

Is the source code available, so that I can compile it on my own POSIX-compliant system? Or have they supplied binaries for my NetBSD/alpha system?

Liquid bans *are* significant restrictions of our freedom

Those liquid bans are far from an insignificant restriction, since many airlines actively encourage traveling with only hand luggage, and one does want to bring their shampoo, toothpaste, etc and usually they come in containers that are larger than 100 ml.

Furthermore this is of course only the beginning of the slippery slope, so even if it doesn't seem too bad now (for some people), it should still be fought.

And of course, by destroying our own freedoms we are doing exactly what "the terrorists" want. They have already won.

"In Germany they first came for the Communists and I didn't speak up because

I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up

because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I

didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the

Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came

for me -- and by that time no one was left to speak up.

The principle

First, the fact that there are "few" Mac and Linux users is irrelevant. It is the principle that count. Tying to a vendor is unacceptable. And you forget that there are more Unix variants and even other OSes out there, one of which I am a user of.

Second, Flash is NOT a solution for the vendor-tying problem, since it ties you to Adobe. Flash is not an open standard. There is only Flash for systems that it amuses Adobe to provide implementations for. There is no Flash version for my system. Now if it were an open standard, I could make one myself.

So even Flash doesn't solve the problem (apart from the fact that Flash is unpleasant because it makes all those horrible advertisements).

The only solution is to use open standards for everything.

Public records?

That site wants me to pay for viewing those public records! I find that, to put it mildly, rather strange.
