iTunes gifting scam plunges Reg reader into the red

Kevin Burges

lucky you

it's the co-operative I'm with and they've been less than helpful so far. They didn't proactively contact me and they also said I was to give Apple 30 days to resolve it. Time to phone them back I think.

same thing happened to me

On Jan 21st. I was lucky though, they only got 14 transactions from me. I phoned my credit card company who put me to their fraud department. They said it wasn't registered as fraud yet to put me back to customer services. They then told me they couldn't do anything till Apple had been given 30 days to sort it out. So I emailed Apple who said they can't do anything till my credit card company has issued a charge back. So now I have a disabled iTunes account, two companies that say they won't deal with me till I've dealt with the other, and a credit card I'm likely to have to cancel (even though there's been no breach of my credit card details as you can't see them even when you're logged into your itunes account).

Brilliant.

bring it on

For those saying it's all tax hikes by the government - I don't think that'd be the case at all. They're just saying it can't be sold for less than X. I would assume they still get the same percentage in tax that they do now, but the suppliers (read: brewers) just have to charge more. This way everyone with a good product wins. Those that lose are the brewers that are only managing to sell because their beer tastes like shit, and people won't pay more for. Once they can't make a living off selling cheap crap on the cheap they'll be forced to either make good beer or go out of business. Bring on that day.

i almost forgot to say...

my only complaint is that it's as low as 50p/unit. I'd have gone for more like 75.

Rare bug blights Lotus Notes

As a one-time Notes developer...

While I agree that the mail database is crap (or at least was - I'm still on the v5 version), the Notes environment is actually very very good at many things. Very quick development of applications that can automatically run online and offline, autosyncing etc. If you spend more time with it you can get it to do some amazing things. No it's not perfect, and I have spent many years cursing it out loud, but I still use it for certain types of apps where it's well suited. I've got a great wee home-grown bug tracking system running on it at the moment.
