@AC#2 - You are high

Where do you get this super secret information and why doesn't it apply to me?

I have a Quad and one Hitachi HD and i rarely reboot. I'm using Kubuntu 9.04 with kslpice since May so I don't even have to reboot after kernel updates. No problems here for the last couple years.

BS benchmark!

It is a fair comparison to leave these features/services turned off because the program's you reviewed were meant to do this. To alter how a program works during a benchmark of it is a farce. Especially when you conclude said programs don't live up to their claims!

To gain performance through you have to lighten the load on the system. Did you think they included a magic version of the windows kernel and linking libraries? How you conducted the review negated their chance at being effective.

I really expect better from supposed experts!

I saw the webcast earlier

@pierce they are 3.5" SATA drives.

@AC From what I could gather the prices included software. I can dig the term "Flash Cache" as the flash is mounted directly on the PCIe network interface card, not in drive bays. From the presentation I gather they're not addressed as disks at all.

As far as the system not being SPARC/Solaris, I think the few months that Oracle has owned Sun is too short a period for them to port the system to an entirely different ISA/OS. Probably next round though.

Dind't understand the doubt's

I've posted various places over the last few month's. Sun and Oracle in their entireties makes sense. OracleDB + Solaris + Sparq is and institution in government and big enterprise.

This is an excellent play by Oracle against IBM's market dominance and vertical integration. DB2 is a threat to Oracle as IBM could pull a Microsoft and offer it a huge discounts during server/mainframe sales and upgrades.

It's a ballsy gamble, but a good one.

I think it will give some direction for Sun as well. Something they seem to desperately need.

nice

@ mike any distro will work and ubuntu probably right off the disk. But SuSe's a good distro give it a try, Ignore the in fighting.

@adam no one claimed it to be a media centre PC. It's 15" @ 720p, wich a single core atom can do (done it on my acer one, crappy intel driver and all).

KDE and gnome are slow on the gutless atoms though. I look forward to seeing how moblin shapes up. From the alpha's I've used it could rule the atom's easily. That's why intel's developing it though I guess.

Oh yeah touch screen = goodness

mySQL is more web oriented

Oracle will still develop and support for this reason and well hell, Sun and mySQL AB turned a profit in it. Why wouldn't oracle want to?

mySQL has already forked in fear however.

Bullshit!

Shortly after AMD filed this suit I started seeing their chips in Gateway, Toshiba and later Dell which were previously Intel only. During the same period the HP and eMachine selection in the store I worked at was almost all AMD.That was the Back to School season that AMD took majority market share from Intel for the first time.

This was during the period that AMD was handing Intel its ass performance wise. But I think that this had at least as much to do with their gains.

Micheal Bay is probably right

Look at what there doing to the OLPC.

btw CD, DVD both Sony. Almost Every thing you've watched on TV since the 80's was recorded & played back on Beta. Most CD's in the 90's were recorded on DATs.

I really don't care for the company but it's the truth.

Also the author either has never seen a HD Disc or has never whatched VHS tape.

Blu-ray discs outsell HD DVDs almost 3:1 in Europe

The Power of Disney

Disney is only avialible on Blu-Ray. For people with kids the decision is all ready made.

Check & mate.

Also doesn't it bother you that Toshiba is the only Tier 1 Manufacturer making HD-DVD players?

(LG makes a hybrid but that negates itself)
