Dell crowned Bad Santa computer maker by angry customers

Threaten to cancel the order

When I ordered a Dell XPS M1330 over a year ago, the delivery date was pushed back three times. So I phoned up to cancel the order, I was told by the CSR that the LED backlit display panels were out of stock, I insisted that I wanted to cancel the order, then the agent offered to put a 'priority' on my order and have it shipped the next working day. Sure enough, it arrived the following Tuesday morning.

Re: MAC

A MAC is a Migration Authorisation Code, it allows you to migrate from one ISP to another with almost zero downtime. If you simply cancel and go elsewhere it could be up to 28 days until you're connected again. More info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Migration_Authorisation_Code

No shortage of bees here

Down here in the town I live in (somewhere in West Sussex), there is not a shortage of bees. I've seen plenty of them already this year, I've had to chase a couple of them out of the house yesterday. Last year we were lucky enough to have a nest in our garden.

Irony is when ...

re: hmmmmmmmmm as its April 1st

No really, this is a TRUE story! This was reported on ITV Meridian only a few days ago, and published in our local newspaper. See http://www.littlehamptongazette.co.uk/worthing-news/VOTE-Worthing-Crematorium39s-internet-funerals.3919001.jp it was published on 27th March.

New laptop

I got a new Dell XPS M1330 which came bundled with Vista. Unfortunantly it was full of Dell's pre-installed crap. The good thing was they provide the Vista install DVD, this way I was able to format the entire system and install a clean installation of Vista. Whoah, what a difference in speed! The laptop feels nippy, and can play Call of Duty 4, and a few other games quite happly. I can't say I've had any compatability problems yet with programs or my existing hardware (printers, etc.).

Paris, because she likes a slow PC so she can keep up.

Title says it all. Although Facebook claim that my profile has been deleted, I very much doubt that it is, and I doubt somebody's like Billy's has been removed either.

Dad caught out

My dad was caught out by this. He had no letters or e-mails advising this was going to happen. The first I knew about it was when he called me and said "I'm having trouble sending e-mail, can you take a look for me?". I went 'round to my parents and checked all his settings, passwords, etc. The SMTP server responded "Please visit http://www.sky.com/helpwithemail", I couldn't get onto the site. After some Googling, I found the answer and got my dad up and running again.

Shop floor staff ...

... really do not have a clue about computers. I'm in the market for a laptop. I usually pop into my local PC World to see what is currently available on the market, note down prices, get specs etc. and buy for cheaper elsewhere (it's great that you can try before you buy). I wanted to get the system rating from Vista, to give me an idea on how well it would perform. One laptop got a score of 4.5, and another of only 3.2. What's funny is that I had to tell the shop floor monkey where to get this information. He didn't even know it existed. Even after telling him, it still took him 5 minutes to process the information I gave before he could get it. *sigh*

RE: Cor - More info please

I think Vonage (www.vonage.co.uk) would meet your requirements. I use them myself, I have a geographical UK number, plus a Montreal (Quebec, Canada) number. They provide a PC client, plus the option of a WiFi phone.

Thats why ...

... you should never use a 3rd rate VoIP provider. Using Skype as a business tool is foolish. Okay, it saves money, but there are other and perhaps better VoIP providers out there.
