Review: Samsung Galaxy S4

Re: I really get tired of this bemoaning 'evolution instead of revolution'

I'm just fed up of the phrase. Every review of every iPhone, Galaxy S, even Ford Fiestas currently states "more evolution than revolution". Is it the buzzphrase of the moment or what? It's predictably included in pretty much every review of everything these days, and states the bloody obvious! Stop it reviewers. Stop it!

Keyboard, you're not my type

Anthony Chambers

Best keyboard?

Subjective, of course, but I deliberately bought a bog-standard Unicomp space-saver with the original IBM style buckling-spring mechanisms. Loud and noisy and perfect! Technically the model is not very old (manufactured on Feb 3rd 2011, a day after I ordered it) but I suppose it's an old keyboard still

Anthony Chambers

They're not?

News to me

On the subjects of OLEDs and blacks; my phone has one of these "HD Super AMOLED" screens and when I power it on it has a completely black screen with a white "Google" in the middle. You can't easily see the edges of the screen, but there's a massive glow around the white. It's a lot better than the LCD on the wife's Sony Ericsson Arc S, but it's certainly not pure black when it has high brightness in the adjoining pixels.

Oh, and IIRC the Samsung Series 9 TVs (at least the BIG ones) have the connectors in the base and run up to an incredibly thin panel. As mentioned by other people here, it does seem like the most likely solution on such a thin panel.

Lastly, I want one. Now

Google embraces Wave's permission chaos

Nightmare

We recently used Wave to collaborate on a project at work, and one of the members accidentally added his friend to the Wave. We couldn't remove him though, so then he had access to all of this company information that he wasn't supposed to. This was in the preview version. However, in the developer sandbox, it seems that any Wave participant can remove any other participant, so I could be working on something important and then find myself unable to get back in to the Wave, and I've lost everything? How is that better than email?

Stats...

OK, so yes, the stats prove that the iPhone isn't selling as well as it did in the US, but it's not the disaster that I'd have hoped it would be is it?

Anthony Chambers

Scaling

"All this compares badly with the 270,000 sold in the USA"

As much as I want to see the iPhone fail miserably, isn't the USA a LOT bigger than France, or Germany, or even the UK? So you'd figure that there's probably the same percentage of morons in each country and therefore sales of the iPhone in the US would be higher than in these individual countries?

How many iPhones were sold in Montana? Or Texas?

Expensive Way Around?

So this guy is actually flying around in the air shooting down non-existent targets? Strikes me as the expensive way around surely. I thought simulators were supposed to be a cheap and safe way to train pilots? Putting them up in a plane crosses both of those off the list. If all that he's doing is shooting down targets he's never seen I fail to see the point!
