other way around

I took GCSE French and German and got a respectable grade in both.
Ten years on and the only phrases I remember from either langauge are the ones anyone could find in a tourist phrase book, and weird useless phrases about mice eating cheese picked up from those awful audio clips we were played.
I dont think we as a country can afford NOT to teach our kids languages other than English. The benefits of being multilungual are (or should be) obvious. Raising a generation of kids who can only speak English (very poorly, at that) is an appalling prospect.
It just needs to be taught in a far better manner than the "mechanical and boring" way we all remember from school.
Who'd have thought Felicity would be allowed Internet access while in custody?
"She also left threatening and obscene messages on North's blog and answering machine, and began her own blog where she made defamatory and false allegations against North."
Freedom of speech doesnt cover threatening someone. Having an opposing viewpoint is fine. Telling someone youre going to beat their face in because you disagree with them is entirely different.
The only thing Lowde is a victim of is her own stupidit and misguided hatred.
I was in the US visiting my then-girlfriend about 3 years ago. For whatever reason she ended up taking me to school with her one day. She's 18 at this point, so not a minor in any sense.
We were having an innocent cuddle in the playground when suddenly this fat twerp with a security badge waddled up to us and demanded we get our hands off each other. My reply doesnt need repeating.
I guess some backward and introverted cultures have a big problem with people expressing their emotions and opinions. Their loss, I think.
"whenever a member of my staff or I telephone the PICT Service we can expect to wait 15 to 20 minutes"
Let's just clarify this.
Does she mean that herself or her staff are on hold for 20 minutes? In which case, she should try calling NTL support and see how she does with that.
Or does she mean that a technician arrives withint 15 to 20 minutes? In which case I suspect a lot of businesses and educational establishments across the UK would kill for this kind of response time.
Not everyone has an overdraft, moron. Im very happy for you that you have so much money you dont know what to do with it. Some of the rest of us struggle to make ends meet. Not because we're financially reckless, but because we simply dont have any money. If you want to continue living in that make believe world in your head, where everyone is loaded and debt is a sin commited only by the damned, feel free. But do us a favour and keep it in your head, hmm?
Some people collect stamps. Some people collect butterflies. Some people collect coins. I collect replica swords and I can say with complete confidence that my hobby is just as safe as the ones I mentioned above. If I go out into the street and wave one of my swords at someone, I'd be arrested, rightly so. Why should it be illegal for me to hang them on my wall at home?
During the middle ages, there was a (albeit relatively short lived) belief among the "doctors" of the time that if someone had been stabbed, it was better to bandage the sword rather than the wound. This legislation is the same type of thing. Banning the sale and ownership of replica swords will not stop the criminal who would have used them from being criminals. They'll just find something more convenient to use.
