Re: How long after discovering was it that they started tweeting?
Only affected in the fact that I couldn't retrieve the emails I needed for his morning's meeting.
Don't have a company provided phone/laptop, so am not allowed access to their wifi. Best they can offer is Outlook Web Access over the internet.
Was only an issue for 30 minutes though, as I just used one of the other attendees computers to log into my email and get the data that way.
Mine - in West London - was off from about 8am to 11am.
All working normally now (i.e. 2-3 bars and 3Mbps download on speedtest, but less when actually downloading a file).
Contract ends in a few days, so might have to see what Three are offering, as a quick look on their website seems to show my current One Plan tariff has gone up 30% (currently £36/month, new plan is £46/month)!

Well mine has a sort of deadman's time lock. If I don't reset it once every 24 hours it zeroes all the drives, and then ejects the drives and they fall down through a T4 degausser to make sure the data is not recoverable.
Not go anything to hide though - just don't want those dodgy photo's of me ending up on the internet ;-)

More churn/losses to come...
I wonder how many they'll lose when their customers realise the 'promised' speed doubling in July is now not going to be started until Dec '12 to May '13?
I was in the process of choosing between BT & Virgin earlier in the year and only settled on Virgin because the salesman told me of an impending connection speed doubling - otherwise I would have gone with BT for a similar price.

Death to Office or to Windows - choose wisely, Microsoft

Journotard
Don't know about porting Office to the Mac in 2001, but it was launched for the Mac in late 1989 and wasn't available for Windows until a year later.
Office for the Mac has been available for the Mac continuously since then - although the later versions (2004 onwards) are not as feature complete as their Windows counterparts.
I've been using Office on the Mac since 1990, and on the Mac & Windows since 1996 - along with Persuasion (Mac) & Lotus Freelance(Windows).
Ofcom boss warns of low interest in 'superfast' broadband
Maybe the consumer has wised-up?
Maybe, finally, the average consumer has realised (probably not though) that the headline speed of 'eleventy-hundred megabits per second' and 'unlimited broadnand' doesn't actually that, and they won't be able to physically download any more than they used to because the ISP is throttling/traffic-shaping them so much that they might as well have a 1200baud modem.

Hotel broadband will just about become usable...
It's currently quicker & cheaper to use my T-Mobile dongle in the hotel than connect to their in-room 'super fast broadband' at £5/hour (or £24/day).
Even if they've got a 100 room hotel, they'd be making money even if they only charged £1/day/room.
When can I get it!
Mac users urged to ditch Safari
Mac users less likely to fall for a phishing site?
This survey states that the risk of a user falling victim to phishing is the same whether they're on a Mac & PC.
If this is the case, then how does the survey reconcile with the fact that most Mac users are using Safari (no phishing filters) and most PC users are using Firefox (with phishing filters)?
Apple's Leopard rejects latest version of Java
re: No really news is it?
I'm sure the problem seems bigger to these developers, as they will all presumably have had the beta versions to test & develop on, and maybe java worked fine on the alpha/beta pre-release versions. I didn't hear of any java incompatibility problems in the latter versions, so I'm assuming it's a problem with the release version only.

UK.gov plans more active-traffic motorway ANPR cams

Lying all the time...
So for years, when people have complained about data protection and privacy, we have been 'reassured' that the cameras are absolved of this act/law because they don't record the whole number plate, but just pass it to the next camera in the pair to calculate the speed, where the data is either dumped or recorded when an offence occurs.
Now we find out the truth, that this system has been tracking our moves all the time, and do they really think we'll believe them when they say they will only use it during heavy peak-time traffic - hell no, it'll be on all the time!
