Samsung PS42Q97HDX 42in plasma HD TV

Greg

Bad review of the review.

This is a great TV ( Ive just bought one ) and that was a terrible review!

As others have said, I cant believe it was tested without a HD source ( listen to your son - get that PS3! )

The thing to note about this TV is value. You can get it for £ 600 + 5 year warranty if you shop around.

It costs £1000 for the 50" version of this , or the Sammy 46" 1080p LCD costs around £1500 ( your eye can only see the difference in the higher res when you go over 42" )

This may not be the best TV out there, but its very good and you cant complain at that price. Or at least thats the conclusion I came to after 5 days of soul destroying research and a £ 2k budget.

Vista SP1 RC Refresh 2 tweak out now

Vista - it just works!

I few weeks ago I decided to build a computer for the first time. I read a webpage for 5 minutes, ordered the bits, put it together, installed vista and it worked first time - and its worked ever since.

The only annoying thing about vista is the OTT security, but once its switched off it works brilliantly. It seems pretty much like xp - except it doesnt crash.

Last time I bought a computer was just after xp came out, and I seem to remember xp getting slagged off in exactly the same way that vista is now. All you vista haters have to accept that eventually almost everyone will have vista, and almost everyone will be pretty much happy with it.

Im no MS fanboi, but credit where its due and all that!

Oz video rental giants go Blu-ray only

You didnt really buy a HD-DVD player did you?

Another (small) nail in HD-DVDs coffin.

Blu-ray discs outsell HD DVDs almost 3:1 in Europe

Blu-ray is pretty much region free

As Im sure many UK BD owners know, most 'region locked' US BD discs work in the UK. I import several US BD films every month and they all work fine on my PS3. You can find out which ones here :

http://bluray.lindsite.dk/

Also Several people on here are saying that they buy HD DVD discs in the US, so it brings the figures down here, but obviously it would also put the figures up in the US where HD-DVD is currently ( and always has been ) getting totally whipped.

I think its pretty obvious now that BD will win, and HD-DVD will slowly fade away. It will be fun though, watching the HD-DVD fanboys thinking up ever more illogical arguments about how the HD-DVD sales will suddenly explode next week / month / year.

Blu-ray outsells HD DVD 2:1 in US

Not that much better, but not that much more expensive either

Mark Jones is right - There is not a massive difference between either HD format and upscaled DVD, so its not worth paying a fortune for it, but I doubt many people pay full price for discs anyway.

Many Blu-ray films can be bought for under £ 15 in the UK if you shop around and also the internet rental site I use, offers 4 films a month for around £ 8.
