SCO's business model?

The quality of AP "reporting" has fallen off of a cliff lately any way. The AP doesn't even want other sites to hyperlink to their stories. How stupid is that? Apparently the AP doesn't seem to know how this new-fangled Internet thing works.

Now that American newspapers are becoming extinct left and right the AP has decided that their business model for the 21 century will be patterned after SCO's model of "sue everybody". Good luck with that, because it worked out so well for SCO.

Ironically enough, the AP has *become the story* which is something of a no no in the field of what used to be known as "journalism".

The AP isn't adapting to the new environment. Ok, class, who can tell me what happens to dinosaurs that don't adapt to their environment?

re: what the hell is GOP?

The GOP used to be an American political party comprised mainly of really old, uninformed white people. The central tenet of the party was that government was the problem in most of society's ills and when GOP members got elected, they diligently set out to prove it!

Child porn suspect ordered to decrypt own hard drive

Stop

There is no crime here

From the CNet article:

"An officer opened the laptop, accessed the files without a password or passphrase, and allegedly discovered "thousands of images of adult pornography and >>>animation<<< depicting adult and child pornography." Boucher was read his Miranda rights, waived them, and allegedly told the customs agents that he >>>may have<<< downloaded child pornography."

(emphasis mine)

Based on the ICE officer's statement, he didn't even actually observe any *real* child pr0n.

Boucher's "self incriminating" statement is vague enough that it hardly constitutes a confession.

Here's what it boils down to as far as I'm concerned- under no circumstances should he give up that password. He must maintain his 5th amendment Constitutional rights. Since the incident took place in 2006 he can plausibly deny remembering the password. The laws against child pr0n are so draconian that he'd be better off ignoring the judge's ruling and continuing to fight. Once the case goes to trial the prosecutors have zero evidence to secure a conviction.

Behind IE 8's big incompatibility list

Stupid Micro$oft

Internet Exploder has brought M$ nothing but self-inflicted pain. To wit:

Anti-trust issues with Netscape

Anti-trust issues in the EU- could cost M$ $Billions

Abandoned IE development for years which allowed other browsers to gain market share

Artificially and stupidly integrated IE into their OS which opened a Pandora's Box of security problems

Bullheaded refusal to make IE standards compliant for years has finally caught up with them

M$ have only themselves to blame. Apparently the Volish drones in charge of IE have always been a bunch of dullard, obstinate jack asses.

IE has *always* been a broken, second rate browser. Anyone still using IE by choice should be banned from teh Innernets until they've been properly re-educated.

The best solution would be to force M$ to stop shipping IE with their OS and let OEMs install a functional, standards compliant browser with their PCs. Innernetland would be a much more pleasant experience if IE would just go away. Forever.

Palin / McCain will lose

Presidential wanna-be Palin is an empty-headed nitwit. She is clueless on national and international issues.

With regard to all the conservative comments here about how Palin / McCain are winning, but the so-called "liberal" media is concealing it, that's just a small taste of the inane, mindless crap right wingers spew on this side of the pond all the time. Do you see what we in that States have to put up with?

I'm a political junkie and I look at polling numbers many times throughout the day. I can tell you with certainty that Obama will not only win, he will trounce Palin / McCain. You see, American right wingers have no connection to reality. They do not appreciate what we liberals like to call "facts" and "science". Because their candidates are shown to be far behind in electoral votes isn't because they're losing, but, according to the reality denying nutters, it's because of some grand "liberal" media conspiracy.

How certain am I that Obama will win on November 4th? I'd bet my beloved C=64 on it!

Unconstitutional

This law will be over turned.

Any program that spies on American citizens without warrants is an inarguable violation of the Fourth Amendment. The ACLU has vowed to file suit as soon as the FISA amendment is signed into law.

This amendment also violates American citizens' First Amendment right to "petition the courts for redress of grievances" against the conspiring telecoms. Congress cannot by fiat terminate ongoing litigation simply because they don't like the likely outcome-- the telecoms will be found guilty of illegally spying on their customers. The EFF has vowed to file suit challenging the constitutionality of the FISA amendment on those grounds.

As much as our American government is determined to march mindlessly into fascism, we still have hope that the Constitution will prevail in the end and democracy will be protected.

Stop sign because fascism is unAmerican.

Only Acrobat 8.X and 7.X affected

We run Acrobat Pro 6.X here at work. I was starting to get pissed about no patch available for Acrobat 6.X then I finally managed to unearth this from Adobe's site:

"Adobe Reader 6.X and Acrobat 6.X are not vulnerable to this issue."

Good thing we haven't "upgraded"(?) to the latest Acrobat bloatware, eh?
