"Also, please note that your "hundreds of credentialed climate scientists" are drawing a pay-check from fueling your fear"
Can you please point to evidence that the scientists concerned earn their living by scaring us and not by being employed as academics and/or researchers. Whilst you are doing that perhaps you might also like to ponder on how you might discus this issue a tad less emotionally. TIA.
"I hate Starosta coffee places where you have to piss around translating faux-italian names just to order a simple coffee. "
Simple solution: use a local independent. Here in the near of Reading we have plenty and they tend to pay their taxes. We even have one called Picnic right next to Starbucks - very friendly and not full of trendy dorks showing off their Apple devices.
The be fair Costa does pay tax on it's profits.
An AC said: "The Trust will bleed it's businesses dry before the Guardian is allowed to expire, or Alan Rusbridger's salary is allowed to drop below £500,000 a year (minus benefits and bonuses)."
The Guardian said: '"Alan Rusbridger emailed staff at the newspaper to say that his salary in the upcoming 2012-13 financial year will be £395,010, compared with £438,900 in the current financial year.
His annual pension contribution will be reduced to £75,000, and the total reduction in his salary and pension package will amount to 19% in the next year starting in April."

"Actually quite a long way, as most thick stone walls will absorb the interference anyway (hence the reason wireless doesn't work well)."
Oh dear. How do you think the electrons get into your house to power your toys? They use wires and those wires will carry the PLT signals out of your house and into other houses. PLT signals have been found to radiate from street lamp posts and telephone wires. RF radiation is a subtle art.
Someone with weird ideas about the legal process in a free country said, "Google can be your friend too, so why don't you Google the data that I have just given you on the convict, Assange."
Convict is the noun applied to someone who has been convicted of a crime and sent to prison. it's not somebody that you think is guilty. Perhaps you should Google the word.
The muddied spectrum will not just effect radio amateurs but anyone or system relying on low level signals on radio frequencies up to around 200MHz. This includes FM broadcasting, radio astronomy, aircraft voice communication, dock, estuary and coastal communications.
The over-riding problem, one that I don't expect a solution for, is that the radio spectrum is seen merely as a commodity which is overseen by a technically ignorant government .

Sorry about the MBR problem, never seen it on my various XP dual booting laptops over the past couple of years.
You are not just grumbling you are also spreading FUD in regards to updates. Give me a system that keeps my OS AND software up to date over the Windows model any day.
Your 'amateurs' remark would be quite funny if it were not for the fact that Windows is developed by people paid to it.
I use my mobile much like a land line - it even cost about the same, £19 PAYG with £10 credit. When I need to make a call I switch it on - this is handy as I can check to see if anyone has tried to contact me. Afterwards I switch it off. I really can't remember why I bought the thing, 99.999 of life is non-urgent and/or utterly trivial.
If a person wishes to waste tons of dosh on a mobile tracking advertising medium maybe they should be watching said person!
Thirty thousand licenced UK radio amateurs of ALL ages, thousands of listeners and CB operators call you on your ill-informed post. Best keep quiet when you don't really know much about the subject.
Then there's your crass selfishness, wanting to shut down baby alarms.
Will no one think of the children!
AC is about right! Dickhead will do though judging by the poster's ignorance of the problem. As someone who suffered wipe out of all SSB signals (not just AM) on all shortwave frequencies up to 18MHz I can assure the poster that a filter is of no use in these circumstances. When the typical background noise level rises more than 30db in a 2.7KHx bandwidth due to three PLT devices within 50 metres Mr Dickhead's filter is about as much use as a liquorice allsort!
As to the last paragraph and his dig at the RSGB, the mis-use of funds by the General Manager relates to a credit card and has nothing to do with the Spectrum Defence Fund.
We cannot always take the easiest way and still maintain a peaceable society - we have to give and take. Sometimes to avoid pollution we have to take extra care.
I notice that fans of satellite TV seem to run cable all over the place to get their fix of X Factor or whatever. Now if I lived in a cottage with five foot thick walls then it would be a cinch to take my CAT5 out through a hole in a window frame and in the same way where ever I wanted a connection. Cheap, fast connection and non polluting - simples!

Oh dear Mr Smith, too much Christmas pud? If a product is crap, neat but ultimately stupid by design and in defiance of the EMC regulations on purpose then throwing your toys out of the pram won't make it any better.
Goodness only knows what a short wave buff might be but I imagine it is something done by chavettes after graduating from the hairdressing university.
Here's hoping for better in 2010,

"No one complains to the gov't and if you suggest it, they just say "that's pointless, it won't do any good"
You don't say which amateur radio forums you waste your time lurking in but if it's uk.amateur.radio anyone posting there is not representative of the hobby and spending anytime there could lead to a warped mind. Luckily we are not all dried up moaning minnies!

Well, it's a good idea but the only plugin version the page detected on my FF 3.0.14/ Ubuntu was Flash which it decided was in need of update. So off I go to Adobe to download the latest version available for FF on Ubuntu only for the packet manager to inform me that I had a later version installed!
It's a good idea though :)
This announcement puts an end to all that rubbish about us being the 51st State - the Mercans would not let this go to the French. No, what with the French eventually building all our nuclear powers stations not to mention the bridge to the Channel Islands, I for one welcome our French overlords.
to get MS out of bed with the present goverment? AFAICS HMG has some sort of orgasmic relationship with Bulmer's bully boys.
On another, related point, my son's school (typical urban State school) is running a mixture Windows 98 & XP. Office 2007? I don't think so, 2000 more likely. Vista? I want my son's school to spend money on education not junkware.
