Aussie Sex Party bursts upon political stage

eros

we're serious about sex

re anonymous coward- it is interesting that most of the political corro I have had is from disenchanted labor and Lib party members . I think that we will more likely attract a lot of people who are just disengaged with politics rather than Greens voters.

Our campaigning to date as been through the adult industry whose customers represent 30% of the electorate. While some of them will be Greens votes they are a very broad cross section of the population.

We need to get about 10% of the vote in one state to win a seat in the upper house. I think that Australians are getting tired of the creeping social conservatism in politics and the close links our current government and opposition has with groups like the Christian Lobby. We are also seeing very socially conservative parties gaining footholds in parliaments around the country and I believe that the Sex Party can be an antidote to them.

fiona sex party

Sadly the sex party could not get it up quickly enough to run in QLD. Nominations closed less than a week after the election was called. We are hoping to endorse candidates there that support our policies. We will definitely be running plenty of candidates in Qld and elsewhere in the federal election.

Re the filter the proposal is for a 2 tier system. You can opt out of the first tier but the second one in mandatory. I suspect we will see a compromise where the first tier is dropped but the mandatory tier stays. This filter will force all ISPs to block sites that have X rated (sexually explicit). The ACMA will keep a blacklist - although they think the list will be about 13,000 sites. On my count that leaves quite a few million adult sites unfiltered.

adult site opposed to .xxx

One thing that Lawley neglected to mention is that the adult industry in teh US and internationally is opposed to the introduction of .xxx

We see it as a great profit making opportunity for Lawley with no benefit to the industry at all.

It may however give our opponents a great tool to further censor us.
