if you had asked

if asked about it i think many readers (yes readers) would have told you that the lack of annoying click bait pictures is one of the main attractions of the register

what's wrong with reading stuff ? We're not as stupid as you think we are !

Adrian Taylor
Thumb Down

Too Many IMages

too many images, once you go above a certain number the eye will cease reading all the headlines and its difficult to know you have seen averything

annoying pop down menu

i dont see any reason for top stories or most read section

i like simple, scroll down in date order

you have made the site less more like any other media/tech site...

i used the old register design to show friends that you dont need all the garbage to make a decent useful web site... ho hum...

and information density is much poorer !

psst! over here mate, I've got some old soviet rocket engines, about 100 of em, in a warehouse, all lovely runners, built in the late sixties or early seventies. They'd look spiffing on your new launch vehicle, just bolt a couple of em on, and job done..... what? they exploded ? you must be mistaken, I'm sure they're just sleeping...

Crooks use Synology NAS boxen to mine Dogecoin, yells Dell

Adrian Taylor

i call bullshit on this report as well based on the lack of any useful processing power in the majority of synology kit

you would need a lot of nas running to equal one gpu let alone mine these kind of figures

dell is doing a funny

Fukushima radioactivity a complete non-issue on West Coast: Also for Fukushima locals, in fact

Please remove the graphic, or at least get your facts straight

I can't believe that the Register is just spreading more hoax data.

the map shown is the wave pattern distribution from the earthquake and nothing to do with radiation whatsoever

Apple's new Safari snubs older Macs, drops Windows version

the poor orphaned mac pros

come and share your grief if you have an orphaned MacPro

https://www.facebook.com/AppleBringMountainLionSupportToEarlyMacPros

Apple have happily maintained a 32/64bit split kernel for the last two versions of OS X, they simply could have continued this model... in fact the early developers preview of Mountain Lion included a 32bit kernel, capable of running on unsupported macpros.

So in effect they developed the solution and then decided not to employ it.

If i want the upgrades to iCloud which are essentially the biggest changes in ML I need to purchase a new machine, so they are effectively saying that my Mac Pro which has 8 x 3.0ghz cores 16gb ram etc etc is not capable of using the icloud services.

Dead Vulture

a couple of useful links

here is two useful links, both pages have been updating, i wouldn't rely on anything that comes from news organisations (register included), as they have a sensationalist agenda, read/research, make your own mind up :-)

Go

If its running full OS X then Yes !

If its only running ipod/iphone software then its useless in my books

running leopard on the other hand it becomes nice and powerful

spose it all depends on the cpu/gpu combination, I suspect it will be pretty underpowered but if the rumours of HD playback are to be believed then its gonna have to be better than an Atom :-)

Be broadband denies BitTorrent ban

Adrian Taylor
Go

all ok here on Be

I have been with Be for about a year now, no problems with bandwidth or BT or accessing TPB/demenoid etc

sounds like the usual false alarm... yet another conspiracy theory...

Go, Brown, go!

Adrian Taylor
Stop

for heavens sake Register get a grip, and dont let teenagers write articles

The Register is an IT based site, why the obvious political slant ?

If it was useful/unbiased political comment it wouldn't be so bad, but this sort of juvenile "get em all out" approach would be laughable in your average pub talk let alone in a "respected" publication like this one.

leave the political opinion out please, and if you can't then get level headed contributions rather than immature twaddle !

uTorrent for Mac leaks into Pirate Bay

Thumb Up

transmission

same here a vote for transmission, very light load on the system, simple and elegant

it has ip blocking and encryption

Fire service may charge for shifting fat people

Adrian Taylor

why the anger ?

I am amazed at the amount of nastiness and malice directed at over weight people on this comments board...

if you went back over the last few posts and substituted gays, black people, foreigners, jews etc for the word fatties then there would simply be uproar.

So why is it acceptable to attack people just because they are fat? If you ask me its because some humans appear to want to hate other humans and they will seize any way to do so...now you cant be racist openly or anti-Semitic then the narrow minds single out some other arbitrary section of society to attack.

I feel sorry for people trapped in their own homes by depression, eating disorders and anxiety, and i'm not surprised they dont want to leave their homes seeing as though all you lot appear to despise them simply because they are heavier than you are !

If you all band together into an organised group perhaps you could persuade government to set up some sort of concentration/death camp to solve this "problem"

To be charitable I am assuming all the negativity is coming from the mouths of uneducated young people with no life experience, if not then perhaps you should look long and hard at the amount of malice you harbour towards various minority groups.
