Re: Mozilla are only partly right
well, firstly 333.444 isn't a valid host address; secondly, IP blocking is quite counterproductive given how much IPv4 addresses are reused these days.

Does your Eco-Drive support non-gregorian calendars? tide infomation? dawn/dusk time? Weather forecast? Public Holiday information? How about even a 24 hour clock??
I think I can resist your manipulative suggestions I should spend hundreds of pounds on a useless bauble.

Tablets work best when you can write on them. Unfortunately at the moment the screen hardware on available tablets isn't up to scratch. And, like voice recognition, the software stack is unable to cope with the wide variety of divergent styles. The OCR have to work at greater than 99% efficiency, and the operating system must store and associate the raw input data on every level for when the OCR fails. We would still be using newton (successors) if these problems had been solved already.
When someone gets this right, will we even notice? The tablet niche is a toy at the moment, little better than a oversized iPod.
It's more like a terminal client for a web browsing service. It is more akin to WAP than the web, considering some stuff won't even load (like this very page, for instance!) and even the the pages that do work (admittedly the majority) sometimes have their URLs mismatched.
It's still useful however. Data isn't cheap.
As I understand it, Phorm identified you by your IP address, and sniffed from what must be the majority of your web traffic, maybe more, and was opt out: you would have to present a special cookie to stop the ads but probably not the sniffing.
Google's services are opt in: Google is not sniffing all your traffic, It can only keep records from google sites you have visited. If you reject cookies from google this information becomes difficult if not impossible to tie together if your IP is dynamic. Additionally, You can opt out of most google advertising by rejecting webpage scripting.
In short, being with a Phorm ISP would have been detrimental to your overall web service; the only way Google would effect your web service is if you actually use it . Sadly I suspect you cannot tell the difference google and the internet.
As far as I can tell Jingle is peer to peer, at least on the desktop client. VoIP is just a add-on service that makes it more likely that you will be using using the email and XMPP-IM services that can have ads served to them.
The only "doing nothing but evil" is your misplaced paranoia. It should be redirected at some other, actual Googevil methings...
