To me, those screencaps look like actual visual representations of the RDF in action... Wonder if maybe it's just a bit of RDF debugging code left in by accident.

Finnish boffins don tinfoil hats, admit Northern Lights are noisy
Re: Deniers
Ah, but the thing is, the scientists said that that the mere mortals who claimed that there were noises ('noisers') were nutters and that the 'settled science' proved them wrong. Now they've had to admit that there might be some validity to the 'noisers's claims and the settled science ain't so settled after all.

The trade school that I attended used to load all of the labs' keyboards in the industrial dishwasher in the cafeteria for cleaning. I'll admit I was a little leery when I first saw that, but I've had 100% success doing the same. Just have to make sure they dry out completely before use. My favourite drying method is propping them upside-down over a forced-air heat vent.

Re: Remote controls
Our cable company has a 'free replacement' policy on remotes for cable boxes and DVRs, whether leased or owned, which it pretty nice of them. Problem is, the company who makes the remotes decided that on their latest version, they should shuffle a bunch of the buttons around (seemingly randomly) and then paint a large number of the clear plastic buttons black, leaving the function reverse typed in about 3.5 point type on the face. Took a long time to get used to the previous remote, and it's extremely hard to retrain your finger memory for differently placed buttons. Add to that having to remove glasses/put on reading glasses to be able to read the annoying black ones, and it's making me seriously consider going out to purchase a couple Logitech Harmonys.

Apple's iPhone 5 connector said to be a control freak
No matter
If they do change the connector, there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth, but people will still buy them because they're iPhones.
As an aside, I can't see a magsafe connector making the phone more secure in a car mounting scenario. I thought the idea of magsafe was to make them quick-breakaway so that you didn't pull your Macbook off the desk when you tripped over the cord. Or at least that's what the "I'm a Mac" guy told us.

Re: I'm intruiged by it...
@AC - I admit, I'm not sold on Win 8 for the desktop, but it IS an OS designed for a touch interface. Should be pretty OK on a Surface.
And all ARM tablets are stuck with the OS that they shipped with. iPad only runs iOS, Transformer only runs Android. (Well, without hacking anyways)

Re: thoughts on search...
I just can't see people accepting anything other than Google for search. The 'average' smartphone user (and no, I'm not slagging iPhone users) is the user who takes a few photos, sends texts, updates their Facebook status, and maybe makes a call once in a while. You know, the type who really don't need that expensive smartphone and could probably get along with a much cheaper one. To people like these, Google is the internet (or at least the homepage of the internet) These are the people who 'Google' things, and they'd be very confused if they tried to Google something on Bing or some new Apple search engine.

Re: big surorise...
Actually, Prentke Romich doesn't just make an app. They sell a device that does basically what the iPad app does, and charge extortionate prices for it. For all that money, you get a touchscreen that does what Speak For Yourself does and nothing else. You can buy an iPad and Speak For Yourself for a fraction of the cost of the device and then you have all of the other functionality of the iPad too.
Now that their product has been shown to be limited and overpriced, they have to resort to litigation.
HTC handsets hit by grip of death
Re: Really?
My old Nexus S has been chugging along flawlessly since the day I received it. It crashed once, forcing a battery pull after I installed a flaky VPN app. Other than that, I think it's only even been turned off once or twice and rebooted once after the ICS upgrade.
I still think that most of the problems you hear about (or experience) with smartphones, whether Android, iPhone, WinPhone, Blackberry, etc. are actually caused by apps.
Samsung 'to launch Galaxy S III in US', snubs Apple's ban bid
"Samsung was also peeved that Apple waited until just days before the hearing to try to get the S III onto the injunction request, saying that it had announced the product a month ago and Cupertino hadn't said a word about it until now."
Well, of course. Apple wasn't concerned about the new Galaxy until they saw the pre-order numbers and realized that the S3 was REALLY making the iPhone look like an antique and consumers were ordering the new, exciting phone in huge numbers. They then fell back on their usual business method - If it works better than ours, litigate and hope to get it banned.
Windows 8: Not even Microsoft thinks businesses will use it
Re: At the time of Windows 3.x ...
"In a couple of years when business is forced to upgrade from XP or Win 7 the transition won't be as bad.'
I don't think so. Considering business is mostly in the process of upgrading from XP to Win 7 right now, I think Andrew is right - we'll just skip over Win 8 in the business world, like we did with Vista. Also, when we were busy skipping over Vista, users were buying Vista computers at home, and there weren't any issues with them learning the two different interfaces.
