Virgin Media opens bandwidth choke for 50Mb launch

Stop

Ha!

Virgin can't even serve the 8MB customers they have - they've got awful peering to other networks and dreadful QOS.

Why would anyone think they can run a 50MB service?

It's like driving a car where the engine can deliver 300 break horsepower but the wheels are blu-tacked on.

RE: Isn't this just a little anti-competitive?

I agree - the EU competition authority should be looking into this, and I can't see it going any other way if they do other than Apple getting a good hiding.

Wow...

I'm actually genuinely surprised at how weak this is. I was hoping it would give Apple a kick up the backside over a few things like copy and paste, but this looks terrible.

Another day, another iPhone fix

It would be nice if the bug fixes addressed any of the bugs...

Us 2G users had a bunch of new problems introduced with 2.0 and neither of these updates have fixed any of them.

Cell phone location triangulation in maps doesn't work (at all) any more, text entry makes Safari throw itself around the page as the autocomplete rendering decides it should be at the top corner rather than where the text box is, backing up takes hours etc etc.

Apple takes the operator's shilling

This customer wants a better camera and better bluetooth

Apple seem determined not to add proper bluetooth profiles, a camera worth a damn (with a flash) or MMS etc.

If the networks are the customers now and make them add more functionality, then GREAT!

Because I want that stuff. That's the three things that annoy me about my iPhone every day.

O2 to offer £100 iPhone... in time for Xmas?

RE:

One would suspect that if the phone is subsidised properly now like every other handset you'll have to sign a legally binding contract to eighteen months of service in store before you take it away, so you won't be able to to "buy the handset for £100 and stick your £35 a month sim in it."

Frankly if O2 allow me to upgrade in the middle of my existing 18 month iPhone contract and only want £70 - 80 for the new handset and restarting my contract I will be pretty happy with that. Very few phone contracts would give you any subsidy at all until the full existing 18 months was up and would make you sign for another 18 months there too.

Now all we have to hope for is that the thing isn't as bloody ugly as the leaked pictures suggest (and that it's got a camera flash, please god…)

iPhone to solve UK unemployment

C'mon

While it unquestionably took too long, 3rd party apps are coming to iPhone in February when the SDK is released, so attempting to infer that they're not coming at all is simply misleading...

Only Sky can save digital TV

Rubbish.

As everyone else has said, complete carp.

Freeview is a failing platform? How? Because a couple of minor channels died? It's percentage of viewing hours continues to increase rapidly, in both Sky and non-Sky households.

Sky would revitalise the platform? This is the same Sky who are having to remove their channels from Freeview because they're loosing money (indeed, it's worth noting that Sky News has NEVER made anything but a loss in it's entire history)?

Digital switchover won't achieve the same level of coverage (roughly) as analogue? Simply nonsense.

How did this get published? Seriously?
