Cybercrooks getting violent more often to secure big payouts in Europe

Blue Screen of Bleurgh

Will Starmer and his spook cronies at GCHQ focus his (limited) attention on the ongoing threat from The Com, or will simply continue picking the low hanging fruit by monitoring and controlling us mere mortals with digital IDs, hurty social media comments and Age Verification demands!

Keeping the lights on takes up nearly all police IT spending in England and Wales

Blue Screen of Bleurgh

There's probably a plod station somewhere in England still using XP or 7, just as there are with some NHS GP surgeries/hospitals still use W7 on dependent devices

Ministry of Defence's F-35 blunder: £57B and counting

Blue Screen of Bleurgh

Not to worry. Those responsible will never be held to account because it never works like that.

Instead the good old Tax Payer will be there to fill those gaping financial black holes that incompetent governments of all colours seem to dig themselves into.

Will there ever be a Patch Tuesday where there won't be any fails!

AWS outage turned smart homes into dumb boxes – and sysadmins into therapists

The Dark Ages

Tack "Smart" at the beginning of any new gadget and you just know its doomed to go "Dumb" sooner or later.

And as for those mugs who fell for the whole IoT revolution, well welcome to the return of the Dark Ages whenever AWS or Azure has an unexpected dump

O2 cranks prices mid-contract, essentially telling customers to like it or lump it

Blue Screen of Bleurgh

Quote - "Britain's comms regulator has criticized O2 for hiking prices beyond what customers agreed to, exploiting a loophole in rules designed to end unpredictable mid-contract increases."

So when OFCON (sic) made these new rules and regulations back in January, they didn't think through the possibility of operators exploiting this loophole, and now here we are with OFCOM shrugging its shoulders with one of those "whatever!" moments while not admitting to this gaping oversight and leaving customers up a creek without any paddles!

Well done, ofcom, you really are not fit for purpose!

BBC probe finds AI chatbots mangle nearly half of news summaries

Blue Screen of Bleurgh

Pity the British Bullshitting Corporation doesn't take a look at its own news gathering and its selective reporting with little or no redress from best-mates OFCOM.

As for the rest of the MSM, come on BBC call them out if you dare

Microsoft Azure challenges AWS for downtime crown

Blue Screen of Bleurgh

"Rohit Chopra, a former FTC Commissioner and a former director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, in a social media post, said the recent AWS and Azure outages have created chaos in the business community.

"We need to accept that the extreme concentration in cloud services isn't just an inconvenience, it's a real vulnerability," he said."

-----------

Who needs a nuclear arms race these days, when all you have to do is pull a plug, flick a switch or upload some non-QA code into an already flaky cloud service, and wait for the House of AWS/Azure Cards to come tumbling down with an already mighty crash and taking half the world's major websites with it.

But not to worry - Microsoft and Amazon top brass still feel the need to bin thousands of white-collar coders and data centre grunts with shedloads of hands-on experience, and replace them with AI bots and freshers. What could possibly go wrong!

Amazon axes 14,000 desk jobs in AI-powered slimming plan

AI bots - no 9 to 5, no holiday pay, no sick pay, no days off pulling sickies, no slackers, no arselicking sycophants, no strike threats, no extended lunch breaks ….

Is it any wonder bosses want to go down the cheap and cheerful road with these soulless things. But surely there must be an AI King Bot that can kick the arse of all the CEOs, deputy CEOs, assistant CEOs and Fail-Over CEOs

But of course, it rarely works like that does it!
