The air is hissing out of the overinflated AI balloon

Re: A bubble? No...

I'm fairly amused with all this anti-hype on AI and LLMs; most of these comments are clearly trying to maintain a cognitive bias against a changing reality. Comparing it with cold fusion hype is completely apples and oranges; while cold fusion could have been a game changer in the energy and utilities sector, it would have been a gradual rollout and the major change would have been a reduction in energy costs across the industry: useful, valuable, but not disruptive. However, it is a fact that when big companies figure out how to leverage AI and LLMs effectively and at scale, it will be a huge market disruption and an enormous, almost instantaneous competitive advantage, to the point that companies in the same markets could end up seeing dramatic shifts in market share in a very short time frame... and that (correctly) scares the bejesus out of them. This is the same pattern of behavior we see in an arms race, which is why I don't think comparing this to a bubble economy is appropriate.

Also, to the grammar pedant out there, "win big" and lose big" are expressions in the common vernacular, so objecting to adverb/ adjective agreement is pointless... but you do you...

A bubble? No...

I disagree with this being a bubble. I think this is an arms race. Somebody is going to win big, and everyone else will lose big, and nobody wants to be the loser here. A bubble is when people throw money at something for silly, unsustainable reasons, and eventually everyone collectively realizes it and the bubble bursts. I don't think there's any question that AI will be extremely impactful in certain markets as it generationally improves. Doesn't seem like the same paradigm.
