One of Europe's sovereign cloud picks may not be so-sovereign after all

UK lagging Behind

This is a positive step in maintaining sovereignty but also market competition against the hyperscalers. Hyperscaler dominance does not equate to value for businesses.

The disappointing aspect of this is that the UK cloud market is way behind. There are only a few providers offering truly sovereign services, but with only a relatively small feature set compared to hyperscale. The UK government is still pushing a hard "public cloud first" message, which is ludicrous.

HMRC hands £473M Fujitsu migration deal to AWS after competition melts away

Corruption at the highest levels. AWS and other hyperscalers are playing at a level other MSPs and CSPs are unable to operate so these are not fair and open competitions. Public money going to waste on AWS, taxes not paid in the UK on that business, and no data sovereignty as AWS is subject to the cloud act.

In who's best interest has this contract been awarded?

Yes it's difficult to separate from US tech dominance but every company should be looking at making changes now. US government overreach and unpredictability means it's a very serious part of business continuity and operational integrity.

Defra doubles contract value for cloud and DC services

Cannot understand the Cloud First government strategy. It's not like they are transforming/refactoring workloads so it'd going to be IaaS on hyperscaler which is bloody expensive!

It's just moving one technical debt onto another.

And at £245m that contract is going to one of the obvious System Integrators lime Capita or Cap Gem...good value?
