Someone posted elsewhere that they found the solution was to replace the iOS with a fresh copy and reload data from the older phone.

To the earlier poster that may have been answered, no, you are not immune from search of mail unless it is actively in the mail. Therefore, you cannot carry a sealed letter and expect it to not be searched.

though the smartest, safest way to do so is to wipe it clean with secure erase, reinstall the OS, and put everything you need online so it can be downloaded via secure connection after you pass the gestapo. Do NOT put movies, music, or contraband on there. Presumably, you could put some movies/music on a laptop so long as you can secure erase it prior to inspection.

The lawsuits will be flying so very soon! As they state they're here in the US, there will be an injunction requested against them within no time. The only way they stand a chance is if everything is not on US soil (including them). There's a high probability that the courts will find it violates the DMCA, too, even though there's other tools that will do the same or similar functions.

If you want it, get it while you can! (unless you're not on comcast (US cable ISP) and can get it via P2P.

I laughed at the poster asking why the EU isn't punishing Apple for this. You'd think Apple already sells the iPhone in the EU (it doesn't). Once they do sell it in the EU, then the laws will apply.

EVERYONE using an iPhone today clicked their agreement to the terms of service before they could even get the home page of the iPhone. Those terms stated that you would not modify the software (or similar). So, yes, Apple could do what they did. Should they have? Well, they are protecting their revenue stream as a portion of each iPhone payment to the AT&T carrier goes back to Apple. They are in business to make money. What has me enraged is they broke iToner. I expect to have my own ringtones for people and refuse to pay twice for it.

No, Apple did not force the upgrade upon users AND they warned everyone in the update text that modified phones might be broken.
