LinkedIn realizes its users have been bathing in AI slop, offers a shower

Re: Quite why LinkedIn still has the draw in terms of having to use it when job hunting is beyond me

I've been actively looking for work in Canada from the UK. I worked with some placement agencies in Toronto and more than one said that I would not be taken seriously as a Senior IT professional unless I was on LinkedIn. Though I pine for Moose, Mountains and Mounties, that's a bridge too far. In my career I have never used LinkedIn in the hiring process.

Not a fan of the huge font, double line spacing and spaghetti on the wall layout on my phone. It's just a pile. I love the reg but walking away. I'll read other people's summary of your stories and come back in the fall to see if the tar and feather redesign sucks less. Loved on call and bofh but search returns slop. Bookmarks return 404. The Reg recently showcased a Norwegian video on how to make things shitty. I think your staff misunderstood the point of the video.

Need a transcript. Zero patience for opening credits, theme music and talking piles of hair. I can read so much faster and skip useless drivel much more quickly than I can in a video of a chat show. This isn't an article it's a click-bait ad for a podcast.

Notepad sheds Copilot from toolbar as Microsoft gives subtlety a try

Outlook Web in now also repeatedly turning on Co-pilot despite my users slamming the off switch in the UI. Support blames another bug. Microsoft doesn't do subtle.

Patch Wombat
Devil

The latest Android Outlook has a "bug", confirmed by Microsoft support. Users cannot turn off Co-pilot. The setting to turn off Co-pilot is ignored and Co-pilot is relentlessly turned back on.

A "bug" says the boffins from support. More like an intentional digital middle finger.

It doesn't matter if you change the setting to sod off or do me. Given M$'s past behaviour, a "bug" will override your choice and turn the feature on whether you like it or not. Maybe M$ can staple it to my prostate right next to CoPilot

Re: Fecking hell

As an admin, I have enough crap to deal with and Microsoft is not helping. Copilot is currently banned for security reasons on the advice of legal. Now I get to start my day checking to see if and how Microsoft has savagely rammed Copilot sideways up my backside again.

The Relentless Surveys

The “helpful” features can mostly be duct-taped out of sight, but why should we have to? My dev machine is locked down, I’m the admin, I build Power Apps, I live in the web tools. And yet in the middle of debugging something important, Microsoft barges in like a toddler with finger paint yelling “Do you like my new layout???”

This isn’t feedback, it’s hostage negotiation. It happens a couple of times a day — right when I’m focused — and it feels less like user research and more like being mugged by Clippy’s spoiled grandchild.

Microsoft has become the brattish kid in the back seat who will not stop kicking your chair until you clap for them. Attention at any cost.

Not Needed nor Wanted

I don't need Xbox and other gaming services on my Windows machine amongst other crap. I don't want the fire hose of spam that is the news feature forced on our users. New update = new whack-a-mole. A non-insignificant amount of my time is spent scraping off the latest experiment that Microsoft foists on us. I know I can create images and custom deployments, read the near constant flow of teaching cards, but that takes time which becomes a cost to our business. I'm spending too much time battling fluffy features and vapourware like CoPilot. They're just so many things s that should be turned off and banished from the get-go. I can't wait for Windows Enshitification 12. It's clear that Microsoft quit giving a rats rectum decades ago.

Magic 8 Ball is Broken

I've been especially frustrated with chat GPT when trying to figure out problems with Microsoft's different admin portals. Lately chat GPT gives me information that is years out of date. Even after correcting it and telling it that features have been depreciated a year ago, it regurgitates the same crap. AI is not ready for prime time it's vapourware.
