Yanno, I keep posting on this theme of "why the fuck is everyone in power obsessed with this shit" but it's still the dumbest shit on the planet.

EU appears to find datacenter emissions easier to offset than lobbyists
Legitimately fascinated that the powerful in the US/EU have decided "ho-hum, there's nothing new to make money off of, so we should run regression analysis on all data complied at this point at 10,000x scale and starve you useless eaters of clean water and create heat waves until something magic happens and we get a new shiny to sell."

The incentive to the managerial class to use AI is so lopsided in their favor it will mean the death of the species before it "self-corrects".
1. Ability to cut headcount and still produce a "minimum viable product", thus more money for them to piss away.
2. Ability to deflect responsibility and launder bad ideas through a "magic all knowing compooper" means they can claim all the credibility for what works and none of the responsibility for what doesn't.
3. The APPEARANCE of foresight and open-mindedness in embracing the big-smart compooper will make them more trustworthy and attractive to any rich asshole who has money he wants to blow.
In essence it is grifter squared. No wonder CEOs find them sexually attractive, it's the apex of their species!
If an AI agent screws up while running your business, there's nobody to sue

Re: Here's my revolutionary, never-been-tried-before solution:
>Around 24 million individual private citizens own an assault rifle
I don't love how the English have come to comment on American armedness as if they have a clue. You'll scoff but let me paint a picture. The gun debacle is a check for to keep the country from being too democratic.
When crime happens, Fox News is first on the scene to find a misaligned door frame to turn into "MASS LOOTING COMING TO A NEIGHBORHOOD NEAR YOU?" This primes the rural areas to take up arms, while urban people go vote for a Democrat who immediately starts banning guns from their constituents (often in direct contradiction of those voters' wishes - see Minnesota trying to ram gun control measures through while ICE was kneecapping people) as a way to rile the already armed rural right wingers and set them at their democratic neighbors' throats.
This is occuring in Virginia right now where a Democratic majority is not banning guns outright but banning enough to the point of uselessness after maintaining relatively loose gun laws for decades. Now the Republicans are re-energized and the rural areas are angry because "hey man that's my shit."
Both parties drive arms sales and the only people who might lose are the suckers who end up on some red hat's shitlist.
Blues are barely armed because of this. If even 3 million of those assault rifles were in Democrat voters' hands I would be shocked. Reds have their own arsenals and the passive cooperation of police and military personnel in "losing" serious hardware like machine guns.
So be careful what you wish for. You may grow to hate and fear the even more bastard US that is born from a civil war like this.

At what point do you say enough?
You're spied on for every waking moment for the benefit of these people, so they can charge you more and more, while they hollow out your labor and buying power. And then they demand you subsidize the infrastructure for their flights of fancy. And then you're expected to cut your meals to one a day when they sink the economy again.
The social contract wasn't designed with this level of perniciousness within every sector of institutional power from private interests to elected representatives.

Yah but the locals don't tar and feather the elected miscreants for doing this so there's no incentive to block straight up abuse of the public trust/commons.
Get thrown out after an election? They've already filled their pockets and used the rest of the term to get a do-nothing relations job, fuck you, you sucker. This is why old Joe and Donnie kept running for office: more opportunities with a guaranteed tenure and power to secure them.

Again I genuinely believe the big cut will be c-suite positions. The same factors that they think makes it possible to replace technical/productive positions are the exact reasons it can replace executives far more effectively.
It's a perfect manager; no bias or personality clash to effect coordination between teams, and no need to maintain a lavish salary to "attract" some hallucination-prone executive who will run the operation into the ground buying up the real estate nearby and seize up profit-making ventures due to ego. Probably going to be a dumb "managers' strike" eventually when this dawns on them.

Yes, trump, bolsanaro, scholz, starmer all the very left wing governments in power have centered on improving the lives of the citizenry, called for peace, pushed unity with the downtrodden in the middle east, and generally been useful to the advancement of the human race.

Re: Amusing.
You've got to remember that Europe doesn't want to be an adult, an independent power.
Much like American redhats, European politicians are not in the game to guarantee prosperity for those around them, but to make sure nobody else takes their place as the favored/Teacher's Pet of American capitalists and occasionally give those not in the club a kicking.
Once the "Americans" burn through the generative AI scam and sell a few million AI sex robots that cost as much as cars, they’re basically out of ideas. And from there the plan is to just grab up as many resources as possible and hole up in a bunker somewhere while the world burns.
